For some reasons, Final Fantasy XII has the most "modern" feel for me.
FF7 is modern insofar as Midgar, Gold Saucer and Junon.
FF8... The gardens, Esthar, and some others....
FF6.... Magiteks and the empire are all modern, but the game does not really feel modern overall.
Final Fantasy VII pretty much had over-exaggerated technology, but it is more close to the real world. But with Final Fantasy VIII, X, and even the upcoming XIII. Those three games draw a lot of similarity in terms of architecture and color. Before Final Fantasy VII, a lot of the games featured a medevil world of magic entering a industrial period. Final Fantasy VII was a modern world until mako arrived. Before coal was the biggest resource, and oil was suppose to be the next best thing. But after Shinra discovered mako energy the concept of oil was lost but later re-discovered between FFVII and AC by Shera.
If Final Fantasy was ever to go in space, then think Star Wars with Ivalice twist. That's how I would imagine it.
[QUOTE="Fenian_lostsoul"]FF12 had a lot of futuristic features, just in the intro, the Battlemap and some of airships looked like something taken from a Star Wars movie.NeoGen85
Actually Final Fantasy praises Star Wars.
Well yeah I noticed some references like those two guys that are usually named the samer, and some others that appear throughout the series, but XII is even mroe similar than the rest.
I've never seen a futuristic final fantasy. There are some modern final fantasy's like 7 and 8 and to lesser extent x-2, but so far there has never seen a futuristic final fantasy, would you like to see one EmperorZeruelFFVII and FFVIII are futuristic FF games. FFXIII is a futuristic FF as well

Here is one you may not have noticed: Nanaki Anakin see it?[QUOTE="EmperorZeruel"]I've never seen a futuristic final fantasy. Here is one you may not have noticed: Nanaki Anakin see it?Hmm I think Nanaki is an actual japanese name, not sure though, so you might be onto something.
I agree with the comment that if SE were going to do a 'futuristic' as in spaceships etc game, it would probably be a Star Ocean, but if they decided to do a futuristic FF, I would play it.SymonDezyn
Yeah I suppose that Star Ocean is as futuristic as you get with Square Enix games.

IT';s teh same letters dude.[QUOTE="Fenian_lostsoul"]Aside from those 2 guys that always reappear and some other stuff in IV VII and XII there are not THAT many references.vornwrathAnd htat isn't enough?
Exactly, more than enough, which is why I highly doubt that Nanaki is a reference to Anakin.
Well FF7, FF8 and FF12 felt futuristic to me, so I guess it wouldn't really make much of a difference if a new FF had a futuristic feel to it. I honestly wouldn't care as long as the story's good.Chirag6FFXII was kings, castles sword and sorcery 100% dude,. Not futuristic. At all.
What you just stated is proof that thinking that it wasn't done intentionally is a stretchvornwrath
we are going in circles here :P
The reason I find it to be just a coincidence is that you have to remember is that obviously in Japan they aren't using the english letters to spell out Nanaki. I highly doubt that whatever name they use in Japan was specifically chosen so that when correctly translated it forms an anagram of Anakin, my guess is that it is pure coincidence. I think this because I know that many things can usually be translated several ways in Japanese and thus the meanings become completely different. I also do not know any Japanese so idk how the name Anakin translates over, but with how many fans of the series there are who love playing the original japanese versions of RPGs, I'm guessing that if indeed in the Japanese version the name was the Japanese version of an anagram for Anakin, it would be a widely known fact because everyone would know about. Fact is I didn't even notice until you brought it up, this leads me to stronly believe it is pure coincidence.7CloudStrife7You could use this so called logic to say that Biggs and Wedge being in every game is nothing more than a coincidence. There are major holes in yoru theory

I am not saying Biggs and Wedge are coincidence, I know they are done on purpose, however the Anakin one is not.
It's more than a little hard to believe that it wouldn't have been done on purpose though. It more than likely was done on purpose. As a SW reference. IT wouldn't be the first non Bigs and Wedge FF reference you knowthe star wars theories have been around for ages, and there are very clear references in FF, however not that many people would like star wars that much to pay that much homage to it...bcus lets face it, most people hate SW, so i doubt they did anything but biggs and wedge on purpose...and 2bh, they might even be making fun of them, it certainly seems that way in some of the games...A_Fading_ScreamWhere have you been for hte last 30 years? Most people love SW dude
