Hi there.  Looking at picking up a GBA, SP or micro.  Not really a big fan of the SP b/c of the shape and layout.  Feels kind of uncomfortable.  Here's what I can get them for:

Micro new $49.99, GBA used $45.00, SP used $65.00.

What would you suggest?  Also, for those who have the micro.....is the screen too small to enjoy games?

I've had the GBA and the SP and the SP is much better. The lighting, the screen, the button layout and spacing, it's all better than the original GBA. I haven't played the micro, but I've seen em and they look TOO small. I say get the SP.

Go with the SP. The backlighting is a must-have for handhelds.

I actually like the way that the micro looks. It's a more portable system and screen look x3 clearer than the SP's. It also make your GBA games look much better as well and it doesn't make the text seem too small.

*edited*

But it all depends on which preferences you like most.

You really can't go wrong with either the brighter backlit SP or the Micro. I have them both and they're both great.

I would go with the SP, as it has backlighting and you can still play original GB and GBC cartridges. The Micro is nice and small, but IIRC it only can play GBA carts. The "new" SP(2) has a proper backlight, whereas the original SP's have it lit from the front.

I've never heard anyone who actually owns a Micro complain about the size, only people who see it online or in stores and immediately write it off. It doesn't play original GB carts, though, which sucks. SP does and it has the backlit screen, although I never had any problems with my first-gen frontlit SP. Micro is cheaper, but it is discontinued and accessories are harder to find. So...if you're going to be playing old Game Boy games, or using a Game Link or other peripheral, get the SP; otherwise I'd get the Micro.

The only one I've had is the GBA, but the SP has a backlit screen so I'd still suggest that. I can't play games on my GBA anymore after playing them on the DS.

Of your choices, the Micro might be best, but I personally like the SP best.

The SP, because not only will it play the GBA games, but also all the old GB games too, the micro and the regular GBA won't do that....

The regular GBA can play GB/C games. It just has no backlight (without modification) and pretty much all commercial light accessories for the standard GBA have stopped.

well everyone's gonna swear by the GBA SP so you might as well go with that.  personally i'm doing just fine with my GB micro even though my hands are big relative to the size of the micro.  and contrary to what some may be thinking RPGs look fine on GBM.  i've already played through summon night and riviera, and i'm currently playing ff4 on it.

i liked the gba more than the sp even without the amazing backlight. i found the original layout to be better. the micro is to awesome to ignore but i wouldn't use it to play button mashers.

i've had all of the gameboys that have bene released, and out of those three, i personally like the micro best, its not too small to enjoy the game, and i think its more comfortable to use than an so bc ur fingers arent quite as cramped like with the sp, plus it has a better backlight, but if u think its too small, go with one of the sp 2's so u have a brighter backlight.

thanks for everyone's advice!! I picked up the Micro for $49 Canadian, 20th anniversary edition. The screen is a little small but once you start playing games on it it's not too bad. Way better than I was expecting and crystal clear!!

I would have gone with the SP because the micro doesn't play old GB games.

Hey we're talking playing GBA games here. If I were to pick GBC or GB games, I would hands down pick either GBA1 or the GBC itself. SP is built for small hands if anythin. I've played GBA games on all four, and my personal favourite is the Game Boy Micro. You made the right choice, and believe me, you will never feel comfortable playing GBA games on a bigger screen after that, but the micro makes everything look so much better.

gba or sp, in the gba it has no backlight but has very good buttons and comes in retro white color, the sp is great because it has a back light so can see the screen anywhere but both are great

Micro and SP might be great for you, as you might play itduring nighttime. If you own any GB and GBC game, then you should get SP. Because SP can play with any GB and GBC game.
