Having never played any of the GBA final fantasy games, or any final fantasy game for that matter, which of these should I get?

Is Final Fantasy IV a good game compared to the others. While Final Fantasy VI has a much higher score, it also has a much higher price. And I was thinking I could just start with Final Fantasy IV for now, which would cost much less, and also go in order. Would I be able to get myself into the series with Final Fantasy IV? Thanks

Why not FFI&II Dawn of Souls? It's even cheaper, it's 2 games in one, and what better way to start a series then with the first game? But yeah, FFIV is fine to start with. Personally, I think FFIV has the best story and FFV the best gameplay. I'm not a big fan of FFVI.

I wasn't a big fan of 1, 2, 3, or 5.

VI is widely considered the best Final Fantasy game there is due to one major badass of a villain, FFIV is enjoyable as well, but a little on the short side. It's all up to you though, it's cool that you are starting with these ones, because if you ever get the chance to play VII, VIII, or X - you'll be blown away, Final Fantasy is an amazing series.

Oh wow. I didn't even realize those were on the GBA. Should I get Dawn of Souls, 4, 5, or 6 to start?

And why did FFIII never come out for GBA. I know they remade it for DS but why didn't they come out with the original for GBA. Should I get that for my DS after Dawn of Souls?

Aw. I watched the video review and it said 2 had the different level system. Is this the reason. Is the level system in 4-6 like it was in 1?

I, II, and IV are enhanced ports of the WonderSwan Color versions that they did a few years ago (it was a system that only came out in Japan). V and VI were re-done for the GBA, but but little changes were necessary since they already looked good on the SNES (although the backgrounds in V are new). III's story is a little weird. It was going to be on the WonderSwan Color along with the remakes of I and II that they were making, but they ran into some snags because they basically pushed the NES to its limits, and they couldn't get it to work on another system without rebuilding the entire game from scratch. With I, II, and IV, at least they could port over number crunching algorithms and equations necessary to get the battle system working. So they put III on hold, and ported IV over instead. Fast forward a few years, when Square-Enix finally could make games for the GBA. Yoichi Wada had the idea that all of the pre-PS1 FF games should be playable on the same system, so they started with I and II, but when they got to III, they hit the same snags that they did with the WSC. So they decided to fully remake the game this time, but since the GBA teams were already hard at work porting I, II, IV, V, and VI with new content, they had another team remake the game for the DS, since no one outside of Japan had ever played the game before, and they wanted it to get special treatment as "the lost Final Fantasy." You could also say it was an apology to the fans, since there was supposed to be a portable version of it back in I think 2001, so if it was going to be delayed for 5 years, they'd better do it right. :P Interestingly, Wada's idea still came to fruition. All of the pre-PS1 FF games are still playable on the same system, but it's on the DS, rather than the GBA.

Interesting story there with FFIII. I'm just gonna go ahead and get IV, then V, then VI. Not only will it start me with some of the better FF games, but it will allow time for FFVI to go down in price since it just came out.

2 was interesting(not really) in this respect. You level up your weapoms and armour. Your character gets leveled up once in a while. So it's important that you pick a single weapon for each of your characters and stick with it. [QUOTE=Bullet_Holes][QUOTE=Im just gonna go ahead and get IV, and move my way up from there.

Sounds like a plan to me. BTW, go to square-enix's website and look this game up. I read that after you win the game, a 50 level dungeon becomes available.

Yeah i'm not that interested in spending that much money now. I'm going ahead and buyng a bunch great of GBA games that I missed now because of how cheap they are, and I don't like the idea of paying $35 for one.

Final Fantasy VI, seeing as how it is the easiest of the three, to a Final Fantasy noob.

Then start with the much harder (IMO), Final Fantasy IV.

Heres an idea.......

You should start with FF I&II, then work your way into FFIV, then slide on over to FFV, and follow that up with FFVI.  Just a thought though.

If you forced me to pick just one of the GBA FF titles, it'd probably be V but only because its the one I didn't play to death as a kid (I've played the orginal 6+ times through, IV/VI were FF2/FF3 here for the SNES and I played the hell outta them already too).

I started with FFIV when it came out for the SNES in the U.S. as FFII. I turned me into what is commonly called a Final Fantasy Fanboy. I think starting from FFI and following the numerical progression of the series is a good idea, but I didn't. I have played every one in the series, and I can tell you that the reviews of FFVI are not hype. Within the Final Fantasy pantheon, FFVI and FFVII reign supreme as the absolute greatest in the series, but absolutely all Final Fantasy games achieve their own level of excellence except for FF Mystic Quest (The only one that absolutely sucked, unbelievable: their must have been an asbestos leak at Squaresoft headquarters when they released that one). Anyway, my point is you can go wrong with any Final Fantasy you buy, unless it's Mystic Quest.

I'd say IV:) VI is a better game but in your position IV is a better choice. And V can be meh.

This is coming from someone who has played Final fantasy I-VI both on the gameboy advance (cept III) and on the famicom if you play THE best FF first its all down hill from there so dont play VI first its way to good haha, the order doesnt really matter, i really enjoyed FFV and i recommend this one as the one you start on, then go to VI and venture on your own, FFVII-FFXII are good but nothing like the good ol' final fantasys

Hm... i think the first ff that i played was FFVI back in the snes days, cause everyone says that is a good rpg, and it really is, in my opinion if you want a good first impression try the FFVI, they have a great story, some interesting mini-games and a wide number of charachters, each one with their own stories, once you get used to FF try either FFIV for a real challenge or FFV for it gameplay mode, FF: dawn of souls are not bad games at all, but they don't give the first good impression about the FF games (1 is ok, but it has few jobs and lacks charaters interation, 2 is not so good because it lacks information of "what do next" and the game story is mainly centered in one town)

Well I already ended up buying IV on ebay a few days ago. I then plan to later go to V and then VI.
