There's two missions with Vaida. In the first one, the mountainous map outside of the castle in Bern, you can recruit Vaida later if you do not kill her. It is best to stay away and not engage her.If you mean the one where you have to fight Linus/Lloyd at the large temple place, you can recruit Vaida once you progress a certain amount through the map. There's a certain area you have to pass into to make Vaida come out at the bottom right, it's the top left quarter of the map. You have to talk to here with Eliwood (there are other characters I think, but I cannot recall who they are). I hope that helps, I wasn't entirely sure what chapter you were speaking about and whether your reference to Linus had to do with the chapter you were on or not.
