Which one do you recommend and why.

For some reason, i have a deep yearning for fire emblem gameplay, and not the static, retro final fantasy level grinding. but hey, i heard that VI is supposed to be superb, so I could use some help in deciding before i go out there and hunt down one or the other.

if youve played both, that would be really helpful insight

Depends on what you prefer.

If u've been a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, of course go with FF6. If not go with Fire Emblem.

Personally speaking, FF6 was good but too long and i ended up needing a walk through cause i got sick and tired of running around the big world map trying to figure out wat to do.

Fire Emblem itself is long, but its one of those games where u can just pick up and play and in the middle of a battle just turn it off and get back on again later without having to traverse a long stretch of dungeon filled with randomized fights in order to get to your destination.

I have not played any FF games for the GBA but I have played all of the FF games (except for seven, 11, and one other). Final Fantasy six and nine are my favorites but I still prefer Fire Emblem's type of gameplay over Final Fantasy's. There aren't enough games like Fire Emblem, there are quite a few RPGs.

I have played all the Fire Emblem games (except for nine and ten which will change when I get a Wii) and would say that four, five, and seven are the best and that two and eight are the worst. Even though I consider Sacred Stones be one of the worst I still enjoy it and would rather have it than a FF game.

All depends on your taste in games. The Sacred Stones certainly provides awesome TBS play, but (in my opinion) it was too short. FFVI was (also, in my opinion) used a brushed up, turn-based format that's true to the series. It isn’t anything spectacular, but in comparison to your standard generic RPG, it does stand out. However, the storyline and the characters in FFVI are absolutely terrific. It all depends on what you’re looking for. Take the Sacred Stones if you’re looking for deep, addicting, and strategic gameplay. Go for FFVI if you want a compelling storyline with an excellent cast of characters. You should consider getting both. In my opinion, both are must-haves for the GBA. :)

Get them both. Get Fire Emblem first.  I'm sure FF VI is amazing, but great SRPGs are few and far between.  Don't miss a chance to get one and enjoy it.

I'll add that when at Best Buy this week picking up Borat, I noticed they had Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones for $9.99.

Final Fantasy VI is tied for my favorite RPG of all time along with Chrono Trigger and I've played a LOT of rpg's, including The Sacred Stones. I enjoy FFVI's open endedness and stats/magic building. I didn't enjoy Scared Stones hour long battles and non revivable characters.

First and foremost,

i would like to thank every one for all of their help and insight, and also taking the time to reply to my post.

well if Sacred Stones is really $9.99 @ Best Buy, i'm definitely going to pick it up. and drop an additional $30 for Final fantasy.

darn, you guys made me want to get both of them now. maybe i should pick up a gba micro as well, because FFVI is extremely long. it might be worth the $50 price of the mirco.

I recommend Fire Emblem simply because it doesn't drag on endlessly, like most Final Fantasy games and there are two different storylines to choose from about 10 levels into the game. You can spend a long time getting all the class available, leveling characters, and exploring the two optional dungeons. Another thing that I enjoyed was the fact that there are no unexpected interruptions for fights; you know exactly what's happening when, and you feel pretty darn satisfied when you complete the game without losing a character.
