Yeah the micro is back lit.  And it looks good.  I think the micro is a little more expensive(like 10 bucks more), but IMO it's sooooo worth it.  It's truly portable.  So small and sleek, throw it in your pocket and go.  I don't regret getting one at all.

Yes / Micro
Micro is GARBAGE! No screen cover the new sp is brighter and the sp screen is bigger. I have heard the micro can't play older Gameboy games and I know the SP can. The mirco also has to have non standard cords. It's harder to find them, at least where I am from. The gba to GC cord doesnt work either. Not sure if they even made one for it.

Yes, it does have backlight.

And I just bought one like 3 days ago and it was exactly the same price as the SP (79.99).

Just a warning.  Micro has a SMALL screen.  Try playing an RPG with a lot of text for couple hrs and your eyes are going to hurt.

Um, Wal-Mart has the Micro new for $50, at least in my neck of the woods. Cheapest I've seen SP is $60. For 10 less you lose Game Boy/GB Color support, peripheral features including the link, and a smaller screen -- but the screen is beyond sharp and I completely disagree with hkc's comments on RPGs. I've been playing FFVI on mine for 4 hours and my eyes feel fine. The Micro also works just fine on the Street Fighter games, no problems with the buttons or D-pad. Also, I read on Wiki (so who knows how true it is) that the screen technology used on the Micro was ported over onto the new SPs, so the screen wouldn't be brighter. And the backlight has five adjustable levels, and I haven't NEEDED anything beyond the lowest setting yet. In the end, it's about you. If you, like me, cherish portability, have moderately good eyesight (20/40 over here), and want to save $10, go with the Micro. If you play with friends on Link a lot, or play tons of GB/GB Color games, go with the SP. They're both really nice.

The Micro is a great system if you want extreme portability, i'd go with the DS Lite first though.

The Mico is the worst thing that I ever bought.  The screen is so tiny that it doesn't matter if it is back lit because you still can't see anything anyways.

yes its back-lit. It has a sharp, clear and bright screen. I really like it. The only thing i don't like is that it does play the old gameboy games. The E-reading and crap doesn't work for it, but i couldn't care less about that cause i don't use them.

if you have to choose now, get micro. It has everything!
