From this blog..."Falfelkid's blog" http://www.nintendo-revolution.blogspot.com/

The excerpt below...

GameBoy successor cancelled

Nintendo had been working on the ´Gameboy Advance Next´ which was to become a third pillar (alongside the Wii as a home console and the DS as a portable). The handheld was to feature hardware comparable in power to that of the GameCube.

It was to offer online gaming and downloadable titles, do away with physical media altogether and be compatible with the Virtual Console. Apparently, concerns over media storage and too high a price point caused the project to be scrapped.

Comparable power to gamecube?! PSP would be soo dead? I mean the DS isn't even as powerfull and its already outselling/ outsold it and plus the DS might not be a media powerhouse but its a superior gaming device to the PSP.(at least in my view)

Now making a handheld this powerfull..what would be the point of the PSP? Sony franchises then?

But the thing is...I would of wanted this. Come on, its basically a portable gamecube/Wii. But would it have had touch screen interface like DS?

No game media cards or cds. Just download all games. It would make sense! Come on Nintendo why did you scrap this? This is perfect?! Imagine using your Wii as the station to download games(ALL virtual consoles!!! and new games for the system itself!!!) and tranfer them to the new portable system. No cds to scratch up no media carts/game paks to fiddle fuddle around with ever again! Imagine download stations where you do to download demos(jsut like ds) and also purchase/download new games online!!!

Wow, this would be incredible!!! And remember broadband speeds are getting faster and faster and faster soon it will be soo fast that...Wow!!!

All they would have to do is create a gigantic flash storage for the device(possibly suport that new technology of 'hard drives as big as coins' and then you can upgrade the system by purchasing these tiny hard drives OR via sd card flash memory, (yes that would carry the price waaaay up, but you never knoe...)

I think you know(maybe am wishfully thinking), they havn't scrapped it actually. I think they are going to go back put it on hold make some adjustments, additions and release it at just the right time. When disc and carts are no longer the main stays of game media. Yes we are moving into a world where soon  ALL games will be sent out online for FREE and also bought online as well, through downloads only!

So what do you all think? Should they do this still?

i see why. 1. it would piss of DS owners, 2. it could cut DS sales, add competition from the same company 3. Price, the psp is comparable to a little better than the ps1, gc and portable wouldn't be too cost effective, and we all know nintendo doesn't sell a system which they lose money on 4. Nintendo needs to focus on making games and such for it's current systems,

So it would be roughly half the size of a GC with a 5 inch screen. Sweet. Where do I plug in the power supply? I'm a PSP, DS, GBA Micro owner. It would be pretty cool but my pockets are full already.
