So just a couple days ago, I lost my save file in FF4 randomly after getting about 5-6 hours into the game.  I bought my copy over ebay with just the cartridge not the box or anything else.  I remember the description said that the cartridge was an NA copy, however, when I now believe I have a PAL version of the game.  The cartridge has different artwork than in the bidding's picture, it has the FF4 logo over the scene on the front of the box.  The cartidge also has this sort of habit of locking into my DS whenever I put it in the GBA slot, and you have to wiggle it a bit and struggle to remove it.  Could a PAL version lose a save file because of combatibility issues with my DS?  I don't want to start another game only to lose my save again a few hours down the line.  I've really been stoked for this game and I really want to know if I should just sell my copy and buy a NA version with the white artwork or if this is just some unlucky occurence and I should just shut up and play.

The DS is region free, so you can use PAL games on a DS you bought in Japan. I think the only exception for this is China, where iQue makes the stuff, or something like that.

That being said, where did you buy it? It could be a pirated copy of the game, which could explain the Lock ups and the data deleting itself. Either that, or it could be damaged.

Also, I have FFIV, and the Box artwork isnt White. The Cartridge is.

yeah, i know the box artwork has those 3 characters on it with a grey backround and that the NA catridge is white. Mine isn't white, it has a caption of the box's artwork on it. I won it from a seller that seems to sell a lot of items called esmart deals. The seller had a good record so I think he's cool. The only other problem I had up till that point was some random slowdown during battles where the time would actually stop for about a second or two.

The slowdown does happen in the NA version as well, which is annoying. It sounds like you got it off of Ebay. If you did, and its doing those, its damaged or fake. Contact the person, or do whatever. I dont know how Ebay works.

Sounds like a pirated version of the game. GBA cartridges are the same shape in all regions. Unofficial cartridges are difficult to take in and out of some GBAs and DSes. Unofficial cartridges also have a knack for losing saved data.

Try something for me, Press and hold the left, right trigger buttons, as well as select and B. All at the same time. If this pulls up a save menu then you have a pirated copy of the game. It still may be a pirated copy, as I know from experience that you have to save in an unorthadox manner with pirate cards. They usually involve a special button press to access a save menu, if you use the ingame save option the save will be lost at next start up.

Have you been able to get any saves to work? Like playing for 5 mins, save then reset and try to load.

Is this http://www.jandaman.com/games.mvc?p=ndssclmsdb&Category_code=NDSDEVKIT what you card looks like with a different lable on it?

Sounds ike you got a pirate copy.  They got me too....I bought Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance off ebay and the game was clearly not an original GBA game.  It locked up on me and never worked again.  Plus the sound had issues.

Try to contact the seller first, see if they refund you, if not, report them.

The game worked perfectly fine up untill i lost my save. I had played for several days, loading up the same profile several times after saving. It was only after about a week that the save just randomly dissapeared.

and the cartridge doesn't look like the one you provided in the link, it looks like every other GBA game, it just "feels" different when loading it or unloading it

the picture provided in the auction was different than the cartridge that I received. The pic I had seen numerous times before in EBs and such.

Maybe you were tricked by the seller. Was the cartridge new or used? Maybe it was abused by it's previous owner when it was used so now it's having saving problems.

it was used. A big name seller was selling it, they had a policy where they "test every game to see if they work." This is sort of a long term problem that they might have overlooked, but i might contact them to sell it back because of the misleading picture.

see, gameboy gamepaks use circuit save technology to save game data while the ds uses flash save technology. as in a gba cartridge there is circuit save, it needs some power to save the data. that power to save game data is provided to it by a small coin shaped cell which gets used up with passing time and if there is no save game data, the cell does not get used up . the save game data gets deleted as soon as the cell gets dead. so in your game, the cell is dead. you can never save game data in it till you change the cell. so open your cartridge, change the cell and play and enjoy!!! i have done it many times. so if you have any difficulty, ask me. generally, this cell lasts for many years in original cartridge. as your cell is dead, its a pirated copy. the cell in these cartridges last only for a month or two. but it will last longer after changing the cell. so best of luck and enjoy!! :)

so you can change the cell and it could work but still the pirates versions can still keep  presenting troubles with the data   i wouldnt recommend play a pirate version of a RPG the most problably is that the  data wont hold for one or another reason

and you should check if it has written NINTENDO in the circuit board because  a pirate game -to start with- should  cost  not more than 150 pesos ( 15 bucks) ......besides that copyright stuff
