Need Help with Donkey Kong Land 2

I save at Kong's College but when I turn my game off (just turn the switch off) and get back on to play the game and it didn't save. My files are blank. Anyone know why? Am I doing something wrong or did i buy a bad game?

This is the original Game Boy game, right?

I am not sure if I have 2 or 1, but I think my save battery is gone or else you can't save in the game. But, if your game isn't saved when you turn your game on, the save battery is dead and there's not much you can do about it unless you're handy with a soldering gun and want to risk the battery exploding in your face.

That sucks : (

Maybe I can return it and get store credit.
