stuck in pokemon leafgreen

So far I have beaten the elite four, caught all three legendary birds, and yet i still cannot enter the cave where Mewtwo is! The man blocking the entrance simply states i must be the elite 4 (which i've already done) and accomplish something amazing. What am I supposed to do?

To get into Cerulean Cave you need to do the Sevii Islands quest, and find both the Ruby and the Sapphire to get the Network Machine on Island 1 working. (Hehe get it, Ruby and Sapphire?)
