i got my GBA SP from a friend for $11 with the case, charger, and Pokemon Yellow. I later bought Advance Wars 2 (best $10 ever spent) and got Pokemon Silver for free. The sound stopped almost a year ago (a shame because Advance Wars' music is awesome) Unfortunately i stopped playing a long time ago and can't wait to get a DS to get back into Advance Wars.

I got my first one, a Gameboy from my older sister with one of those old mario games. the first one I bought was a Advanced from CCity with pokemon crystal. I sold that one to my yonger sister for 45$ I then got a SP used from some place, but it got droped out of a window from around 2 feet (in one of those carrying cases with a fw games in it) and cracked the screen. So I bought a silver one for 79.99$ a year or two later and still have it today.

I got one of those Limited-Edition Pokemon themed GBC's back when I was a youngster. Nowadays, It would be worth a small fortune, but it was stolen right out of the glove box of our old car. Curse those broken locks. Anyways, few months later, I got one of the purple GBC's. Unbeknownst to me...the GBA would release in a few months. That sure was a hard kick in the pants. But once the remakes of Final Fantasy poured in, I decided it was time to invest. So I got a nice see-through indigo GBA.

Mi mother went to the states last year and bought 2 GBC, 1 GB and 2 GBA with a lot of games and a lot of accessories only for $50 (I live in Peru so is kinda awesome to buy so much for $50 instead of the $500 that i would pay normally here in Peru or even more)

Iwas on my first vancation oversea to Thailand. Oversea I saw a Gameboy pocket and my mum bought for me as I look at it long enough  . I bought some game with it, as time passes , I got a Gameboy colour , Advance , Sp , Micro and now a Ds.
I wasnt very loyal to my gameboy as most of my gameboy have lot of scratches and even sell it. But I treat my Micro and Ds like my baby :P.Never will let it getting harm.

Got the "Brick" GB. Amazing. Couldn't stop playing it. Got more games, continued to not stop playing it. Original Tetris ftw.

Siblings got GB pockets. Jealousy set in. Then GB Color came out. I got a color for christmas of that year. Gave my old brick to our youngest sibling.

Bought a clear indigo GBA the day it came out for the original retail price. Pokemon kept the addiction fresh.

Many years later, DS comes out. I ignore it because the I know they will change the colors and they're aren't any games I want for it at the time.

DSLite comes out. Black. Awesome. I buy it along with Clubhouse games, Resident Evil, Phoenix Wright, and Mario Kart.

New handheld from Nintendo comes out in a few years... I repeat the process...

I bought it as soon as it came out, but I didn't get any games for it for a long time. Mainly because I was focused on the PS2 and other consoles. A very short story. :P

I had quite a large GBA game collection prior to ever owning my GBA SP. I had purchased the GBA Player attachment for the base of my NGC so that I could add the Final Fantasy, Zelda, Metroid and CastleVania GBA games to my NGC library. After a few months of playing GBA games on my NGC, I purchased FF:Crystal Chronicles and Zelda Four Swords for the NGC, which prompted me to finally purchase the SP and a link cable.

I got the first GB as a gift back in '89.  My dad was returning from Thailand (his vactaion spot of choice) and he asked if I wanted anything.  I told him about the brand new GameBoy in Japan and since he was taking a one day layover he said he would look for it.  When he gave it to me he told me that he would never again do anything for me that was related to "those damn video games" because of the nightmare he went through to get this "hunk of plastic" that cost him over two hundred dollars.  He didnt expect the price and had to spend plus the entire day running all over Toyoko trying to find one during the spring heat over there.  Once I got it, I fell in love with it.  I showed my friends and they told their friends and so on.  Everybody went insane over it and then somebody dropped it.  It didnt break (put a nice little nickon the corner though) and that was when I put it away.  I was to scared that somebody would break it and I couldnt get another one until they came out here in the U.S.  I only played it at home and by myself after that.  That was the same year I started driving to school.   I had decided to put it in my car.  My school parking lot was rather small and if we didnt want to park at the school stadium then it was an early bird gets the best space kinda thing.  Having the GB in the car made me get up early and get the first spot just to spend time playing the 2 games I had over and over.  I kinda like the fact that of the few American kids to have a GameBoy in '89 I was one.  Then again, I didnt have any new games for a year either, lol.  Most vidogame stores didnt import back then and the few that did charged four to five times the normal price for a game.  I still have it, and still play it from time to time.  The old girl has taken a beating for the past 18 years, but she still works as good as new.  I keep her with my Vectrex and wonderful woodgrain VCS.  ^_^ Â
