I was switching disks in Tales of Symphonia the other day when I realized it - all the games I have with two disks are exceptionally good. There's Tales of Symphonia, which is arguably the best RPG on the Gamecube, there's the amazing (both in presentation and gameplay) MGS: The Twin Snakes, and there's Resident Evil 4 (no introduction needed). The awesomeness is strong with each of these games, which made me think... what if the number of discs a GC game has is directly related to how good the game is?!

Of course, to prove this theory, I need to know - are there any other 2-disc games? And if so, are these other games also awesome-tastic?
Yes, this thread is sort of a joke. But I still think I might be onto something.
I know some multi-disc Gamecube games: Baten Kaitos, Baten Kaitos Origins, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil Code Veronica X, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005.

Well two discs definetely means more content, so I would dare to say that the awesomeness potential increases too.

Tiger Woods 04 and 05 had two discs? Well, I guess they don't totally disprove my theory, since they seem to get fairly good reviews...

Definitely not. Metroid Prime and Wind Waker are extremely close of being absolutely perfect games, and only on 1 disc.

The true reason these games are two discs is because gamecube discs are only 1.5Gb. So if you want a big game you'll need two discs. I agree thought that these two disc games have been very good.

True (at least in the case of Metroid Prime, I beg to differ about WW though). I guess I'm not trying to say that discs are automatically a measure of awesomeness, it's just that statistically a 2-disc game is more likely to be good/great than a non-2-disc-game. After all, how many lame movie tie-ins or GTA clones are 2 discs?

TMNT 3: Mutant Nightmare has 2 discs. Its rated pretty low, but I like it probably because I grew up a turtles fan. It has voice acting during the game as well as cutscenes from the show, and CG cutscenes.

They should have put it on two discs just to make it look more impressive. I mean, the only reason Tales of Symphonia was on two discs is because they had like 4 anime cutscenes that were ridiculously huge and uncompressed.

no, it was mostly because of the massive amount of voice acting...

Goldeneye: Rogue Agent and TMNT 2: Battle Nexus is 2 discs and they're both annoying when you have to switch discs, on TMNT 2 half of the levels are on one disc and the other half on the 2nd one, but you often backtrack and forget you have to switch discs, so if you go into a level you have no choice to get up and switch it, no way to get off of that screen... on Goldeneye you have to switch discs if you want to play multiplayer, i haven't played the single player enough to see if you have to switch discs though... they're both rather annoying

Oh yeah... I turned voices off before I even started playing, so I forgot about that. They should have at least done voices for the skits though, if they're going to do a ton of voice-overs.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004: Gamespot said the sheer number of courses added (which is why they needed a 2nd disc) is enough to buy this game. I happen to agree.

The fact that only 25 of the GameCube's approx. 600 games use 2 discs proves that 1.5 Gigabytes isn't a small amount of memory, and games can still be big if only one disc is used. Yes, if a developer wanted lengthy uncompressed FMV's and massive amount of voice acting in their game like Tales of Symphonia then 2 discs would be needed. But Metroid Prime and Twilight Princess are huge games with plenty of content and amazing graphics, and they use only one disc. Even if games do contain large amounts of voice acting and extra content, the vast majority of the data can be stored in one disc. Resident Evil 4 proves this: disc 1has the first 4 chapters, Assignment Ada, Mercenaries, and A LOT of voice acting. Disc 2 was needed only for the final chapter, but it also contains Assignment Ada and Mercenaries but only so the player wouldn't have to switch discs when playing those modes.

Tales of Symphonia, Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, umm I'm running out of games. So i'll say Tiger Woods PGA Tour. That's all I can think about though. Point is, I think Funkyhamster is right. Let's just think for a second. Games with two discs have more gameplay, content, seemingly better graphics, and again I will emphasize content. For example: Tales of Symphonia had a large world(s), as mentioned before four animated cutscenes, alot of voice-overs, skits, many weapons, great characters, and really good cel-shading. That stuff takes up alot of space and memory on the discs (surpisingly though, it only uses up two whole points on the memory card). So basically, this topic makes alot of sense. If a game has lot of content and many more things to add to that. Then game-players will be attracted to the game because there's so much too do in the games with two-discs.

The overworld in Tales of Symphonia begs to differ. :P No seriously, ToS had really good graphics except for the overworld...

Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow are one disc games. But they have amazing graphics and sound, and a lot of extra content.

Yes... most two-discs games seem to have better content than the others, although it is not always true. I have RE4 and Baten Kaitos, both great games...
