EDIT Wtf happened to my topic?! It said something along the lines of: Will I like Baten Kaitos if I liked games like Final Fantasy >9 and Xenogears?

Well, topic. I only learned of that games nature about 30 minutes ago, and am VERY interested, since I have been looking for a good japano-RPG with prerendered backgrounds and a deep storyline and battlesystem ever since.. since the rather disappointing FF IX, really. I didn't like "Grandia" and "Skies of Arcadia" because they were so.. shallow, in terms of storyline and presentation.

There are actually 2 games in the series so far: Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean..and Baten Kaitos Origins (the prequel). Both are excellent games. They have some of the most beautiful graphics I have seen (artwise..the game looks like a painting basically..really nice), the music is just absolutely phenomenal in both, the characters are likeable and have depth, both games have very interesting stories with some insane plot twists, and the battle systems are awesome in both games.

I think both Baten Kaitos Origins and Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean are great games, especially when you like RPGs and it has one of the best soundtracks ever Imo!

It also keeps you playing it long enough, talk about others on the Baten Kaitos forum! (in my sig)

Personal thought: Over-rated

I really did want to like Eternal Wings but I couldnt get into it AT all. I found the card system thing (dont remember all the details. It was a long time ago when I played it) very complicated and I couldnt really get my head around it to the point of it being fun. It felt more like an effort, which I think shouldnt be the case. I cant play a game where I have to work at it to have fun. Its a game. It should be fun naturally.

The Baten Kaitos games were some of my favourite GC games. The hand painted backgrounds were beautiful, and the music top notch. The gameplay itself was quite good once you get used to them. However the games do have some issues that may turn you away from the games.  Both the games take some time to get into since the battle system can be confusing at first, once you get used to it you'll be sucked into the game. Also the voice work in the first game was terrible, though they did fix it up in the second one.

I agree both were excellent games. Great graphics, sounds(although voices in first were not so good). The battle system may take some time getting used to but they arent to hard to once u get used to them. I personally like the second more than the first.

You will ike the games if you don't mind that you fight with cards. Don't buy it if you hate it to get a card you can't use.

They're pretty creative...very immersive, emotional, and long games.  I highly recommend BKO over Wings, although each is a great experience.

It depends. Baten Kaitos is not for everyone.  If want a game that keeps it's pace that doesn't require much thought, this isn't for you.  But if you want a game where you have plenty of possibilities to put into a deck and battle with, then do it.

i didnt like wings at all. i stopped enjoying it half way through and just wanted to beat it for the sake of beating it.  i also had to play with my sound off because the sounds/voice acting gets HIGHLY annoying.
