i'm thinking of buying ff: crystal chronicles but as a single player game not for the whole multilayer, getting game boys together thing but how is it as a single player? , hours, difficultly, comparison with other ff games etc.. thanks alot.
Most people are going to say that the best rpgs for the GCN are Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, and Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door. Not many will actually recommend FF:CC as a single player experience. Why not check out the reviews of the games I mentioned and see what you think. That is, unless you've already played those, in which case: get yourself a PS2. It's tough, but it's the truth.gonzalezj1
....and they will say Skies of Arcadia Legends, which, to me, is the best on the GC (and DC).
Either Paper Mario or Tales of Symphonia are the best really...not too much room for debate. Baten Kaitos is good, but different. And if you want, give Lost Kingdoms a try.ice_radon
SoAL is a flat-out better game than ToS.
I think the battle for supremacy is between Skies of Arcadia Legends and Paper Mario: TYD.
However, I haven't played Fire Emblem yet. I think BK is better than ToS also.
Tales of Symphonia is an excellent game. It has great combat, long play time and lots of little features that will keep you playing. The plot is decent but the dialogue is very cliched. I've heard Skies of Arcadia is great as well.
I used to have Crystal Chronicles. It is immensely dull on single-player, has a poor combat system and I didn't discover any kind of plot and I played for about 10 hours.
Yes, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, and Paper Mario: TTYD are great RPGs (although I played more of the N64 Paper Mario), but I've got to give Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance some forum time. Great battle system, interesting story and dialogue, and the mortality of each character adds to the strategy. ToS, Baten Kaitos, and Fire Emblem are all ahead of FF:CC, I'm afraid.
Crystal Chronicles is a solid game imo, but I agree that multiplayer makes it much more fun. Still worth a rental for single player, however.
Out of the Cube rpgs I own (didn't include CC), these are my rankings.
1. Tales of Symphonia
2. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
3. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
4. Baten Kaitos
First off, I'm one of those stubborn classic gamers who still considers "Legend of Zelda" an rpg series, and nothing anyone can say will change that.
I agree with those obvious ones that have been mentioned and rank them as such:
I would also add the following:
The one I would recommend staying well and clear of is "Skies of Arcadia". It is a shody port of an old DreamCast game, and it wasn't all that good eons ago when it first came out. It'll cost you a tone since there aren't alot of copies, and its not nearly as good as any of those on either list above.

- Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
- Baten Kaitos Origins

- Paper Mario: The 1,000 Year Door

I would also add the following:
- Phantasy Star Online Plus+
- Lost Kingdoms
- Lost Kingdoms II
- Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
- Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance

wow, I couldn't disagree with you more.
most of the GC's RPG's you mentioned are crap compared to Skies of Arcadia Legends. Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, Baten Kaitos, and ToS are worth getting but still none top the GC's "Directors Cut" of SoA.
The Baldurs Gate game is a complete joke, and is certainly not worth having its name associated with the PC's Shadows of Amn, arguably the finest RPG ever made.
Feel free to disagree with me of course, we all have different opinions, but I have to stand by mine. I wasted $50 on "Skies of Arcadia" way back when I had my Sega DreamCast, and it wasn't even good THEN.Â
I'm not just trying to be a jerk here either. Even though I knew I had hated the game when I bought it for the SDC, I still rented it for my NGC just to give it another chance, and honestly it bored me to tears, not to mention the graphics still look just as blocky as they did back in the day. I didn't find the weapon system interesting either (color of the blade stuff).
I would say the following:
1. Tales of Symphonia
2. Paper Mario: TTYD
3. Lord of the Rings: The Third Age.
(but Zelda is the best!!!)
