I can agree with your first one, though I've never actually played it but CC is not really an rpg. Never played LotR.
For me it would have to be Paper Mario or Phantasy Star Online.
I can't imagine that Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door has not been mentioned yet :oLance_C
Umm... I did mention it though... ;)
I love two RPGs for Gamecube: Skies of Arcadia Legends and Tales of Symphonia.DeafNYCPlayer
Out of the RPGs I've played on the cube I would rank them as follows:
1.Baten Kaitos Origins
2.Tales of Symphonia
3.Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
4.Fire Emblem Path of Radiance
5.Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
6.Skies of Arcadia Legends
I still have to play Crystal Chronicles at some point but out of the major rpgs for the cube that I've played I found BK Origins to be the best. A lot of people like skies of arcdia but I can't stand that game. Random battles just made it worse.
IMO, it's Baten Kaitos Origins. Don't pay attention to Gamespot's review at all for the game because they are completely wrong. Except for the music, Baten Kaitos Orgins had a better story, characters, gameplay, voice overs (thank God), than its predecessor, yet it was scored a whole point lower.peaceful_anger
I'll just correct that for you. ^Mario*
Certainly either Tales of Symphonia or Baten Kaitos. The former was not the best in the series, and many people that lean towards buying Nintendo systems exclusively have only played Symphonia, which is a shame, because it's a great RPG series. Baten Kaitos reminded me of Chrono Cross, in a good way. The graphics, art, music, story to some extent. Then again, Monolith is composed of ex-Square employees.Â
I think the best RPG is Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings And The Lost Ocean. I've only played about 2 hours of Baten Kaitos Origins so far, so I don't know how good the story is yet. They really messed up the battle system though.
You can't judge the battle system in BKO until you class up a few times. You'll realize that BKO's combat is way better than BKEWATLOZebethOrZebes
So true. I remember the first few hours of playing BKO I was so lost and confused. It was such a big change from the first game, however after a while you'll come to like it better since the battle system is not only faster, but you can get some sweet chain combos.
I think the thing that makes an RPG great, is the many twists and great story-line that occurs during the game.
SPOILER WARNING, HIGHLIGHT TEXT TO READ
For example: in TOS when the game is about 85% complete you learn that Kratos is Lloyd's dad. That was a very crucial part of the game. In BKO, you learn that Milly is part Machina. And Sagi is not actually a spiriter. AND Verus was the evil one.
END SPOILER
I mean its stuff like that really makes an RPG worth playing.
The ones that I really enjoyed playing were Tales of Symphonia, and Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. I didn't really care for Fire Emblem much, not sure why really. I do have on my wish list Paper Mario and Skies of Arcadia. Skies of Arcadia is hard to find at a decent price where I live, so I may have to go the eBay route!
Edit: Baten Kaitos Origins is on my wish list as well!Â
The best RPG are Definitly Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origins
FF:CC is an awful game, less than ten hours of gameplay, boring game, no replay value...Â

Damn my curiosity! I just got ToS yesterday and I didn't think the spoiler would be that big! Nooooo!!!
Anyways, after playing ToS, I would say that it is not as good as I expected but it is still fun. I would still say Paper Mario TTYD or PSO would be the top, though PSO is only because its crazy addictive. Other than PSO I would have to say Skies of Arcadia Legends.

Yeah, I am a little lost and confused with the battle system right now. I'm definitely gonna play it some more though, and see if it gets any better.
The most common RPG's for the Cube consist of: Tales Of Symphonia, Baiten Kaitos(Origins, Eternal Wings And the Lost Ocean), Paper Mario(Thousand Year Door), Skies Of Arcadia, and Lord Of The Rings The Third Age. After those I can't really think of any besides Final Fantasy, which is classified in more than one category. Can anyone else think of another?ShadowofTulkas

You call FFCC an RPG and Digimon World 4 a semi RPG? Digimon World 4 is more of an RPG since it actually is. FFCC is more or less and action adventure game with slight RPG elements (items.) In my oppinion, and RPG has to include a level up system of some sort and useful items/equipment, otherwise it is just an adventure game. FFCC fufills the items part but you don't level up your character at all, instead you collect items that make you stronger. Don't get me wrong, I liked FFCC but its not an RPG in my book. Also, Gladius and Future Tactics are Strategy games.

I haven't played Digimon 4 so I just threw that out there.. but in FFCC you create your own character, at the end of each stage you collect an Artifact that boosts one of your skills, with this you can build your skills or character any way you want, the game flows in a non-linear fashion, the item system is very customizeable and deep, everything else is standard dungeon crawlering RPG affair... everything about that game screams "RPG".. you create, control and advance your character how YOU want... I gained more Artifacts than I did Levels in Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance
Gladius and Future Tactics are Strategy RPGS... how are these any different than Fire Emblem? you didn't call that one out

Sure you can create your characters that have their own backgrounds and families, which was cool, but the creation system isn't very deep and you certainly cannot make your character any way you want. The item system, which I don't remember much, was you find ores and molds and you pay somebody to make it right? If so, then of course that was a cool feature. However, the game is very linear, you pretty much go through a straight line and decide which dungeon to crawl through which most are not very elaborate or labyrinth like, but then again, I haven't played this game in a long time. I love how you said you collected more artifacts than you leveled up in BG when collecting artifacts is way different. Collecting artifacts is much easier than leveling up a character and takes alot less time. I will admit that I had forgotten many of the "deep" parts of the game but for the most part it is still very action adventure like. Once again though, I'm going by what I consider an RPG and many people share different oppinions.Â
Turned based strategy games are a whole different genre than RPGs though they do share similar aspects. Oh and I left out Fire Emblem because I have never played it :D

Turn Based Strategy RPGs are barely any different than Turn Based RPGs... and they all fall under the RPG umbrella "Action RPG", "Turn Based RPGs", blah blah blah RPGs.. RPGs are RPGs... he didn't ask for a certain kindÂ
Ack, don't get into this I beg you. It just gets greasier and messier as you type. Don't try to prove the other guy wrong, because he isn't. Nor are you wrong. You just think differently.
Rather, ask yourselves, what is a RPG according to you?
My definition is a game that involves character stat development and battles that are based on numbered stats, rather than player skill against mobs of braindead AI enemies.
According to this, FF:CC fits the bill. What stands out the most is the combat based on stats, than skill.
As for my best RPG on the cube... It has to be FF:CC. FF:CC is one of 2 RPGs I've ever finished, the first being pokemon. red. I would dread the game, if not for the well-made multiplayer. I do find RPGs boring, but at least you can play with a friend, so both of you can be bored or frustrated. I also have PSO1and2, which is INSANELY hard to find, but I have it. It goes online, but... Eh, Diablo 2 is better, but I still don't like D2.

I realize that, which is why I said they are similar, however, I'm refering to websites, Gamespot for example. However, I just checked IGN and they have Fire Eblem, Future Tactics AND Gladius under the Strategy RPG genre... I couldn't help but find the irony that only the 3 games we are talking about are in the Strategy RPG genre. Ahaha.
Oh and to teh poster above me, I have stated that it is my oppinion and I know that this arguement has heated up and I'm trying to make it cool down without just not posting. Also, don't want to start another arguement but I have to say this, Crystal Chronicles is both dependent on player skill and alittle on stats since it is a hack n' slash game (for the most part) you do have to learn to use combos and dodge and all the like.
