Leave now. Just go away. SC2 is a great game in its own right but please don't compare any fighting game to smash. There is no competitioncougar65
I completely disagree. Super Smash Bros. Melee is a fun party game if you have multiple players, and great if you want a change of pace, but it is not a real fighting game. The non-existent single player modes, and extremely questionable character balance killed it for me.
TC, if you didn't like SSBM, Soul Caliber II will should suit you just fine. I would also suggest Capcom VS SNK 2: EO if you are a fan of 2D fighters.
I enjoy SCII more as a fighting game, but SSBM more as a party game.Funkyhamster
I agree. SCII is an excellent fighting game. But SSBM is the better party game. Either game has it's Button Mashers.......especiallySoul Calibur :(
Yes, Smash Bros is very overrated as a fighting game and as a game in general. Soul Calibur is a bit overrated as well. I would rank them both evenly personally. Each have their own merits and weaknesses.
I would say both play differently and that I prefer Soul Calibur to SSBM.
Soul Calibur requires knowledge of the moves. To play properly you have to know the properties a move has in order to use it for the current situation. A constantly blocking opponent? Grab him. They keep dodging your attacks? Use a wide attack. So it's about memorizing moves and applying them in the right situations.
SSBM has a smaller moveset, so it's more about how you do the number of moves you have, rather than just knowing them. Moves in SC2 are generally easier to do, just input commands and watch. SSBM has a third dimension of gameplay and that's character movement. Your guy will be jumping around the stage and wherever.
If we were to measure balance, I would say SC2 is better at it. But playing SSB or SSBM means you accept this. Yes, a lot of my friends choose fox. I simply choose donkey kong to grab and suicide both of us for fun.
SSB is a game where you can goof off and have fun. I see SC as a game where you take time to learn the game and compete to see how well you do.

I wouldn't really agree with that. Soul Calibur is very much a button masher. You really only need to know a few moves to do really well. And the game allows many cheap mechanics as well. For instance, most of the timeit's easy to just throw your opponent off the side of the stage for an instant win.

I agree with Revelade although this is more so when playing single player. Regardless of single or multi player I still enjoyed SC2 much more.

Agree. SSBM is better because those with skill will always win. In SCII, button mashers can beat some skilled players.

Eh, the problem I have with SSBM as a fighting game is just that people take it too seriously... it was always meant to be a lighthearted sort of thing, you know? Although that definitely is a valid criticism of SCII... every now and then I almost lose to somebody who's never played the game before just because I get lazy and they get lucky mashing.
