Most of the locations in RE4 kinda blended together in my opinion, and thus I don't really have a favorite "level or area" so much as I have "favorite moments".
My favorite moments would be the standoff at that two level house when the torch carrying mod surround the house and came pouring in.
probaly when in the castle and when the dude in the basement scary.. heheh..:P and those crazy dudes in reds always got me :( but thats because i was always low on ammo... and broken butterfly... OWNED!!!! but barely any ammo like i said :(
The game doesn't really have levels but in the story mode I am going to say the island because the best enemies were onthere but this closely followed by the Castle, which I loved too. On Mercenaries I am going to say the village as it looks the coolest and the Bella sisters are just so attractive and nice:P
I would say the part where you help Luis defend a house against a whole bunch of enemies, really intense. The Krauser fight as well, but their are too many good moments and I cant decide.
I would say the ending. It was very atmpspheric and "escaping" was a pretty fantastic bonus. colonel_beeb
It was similar to Resident Evil 2's where Ada gives Leon a huge weapon to kill off a creature. Also when he starts to his epic final battle it starts to rain. Rain has been used many times in films to give an atmosphere but after Leon escapes and goes through a tunnel, it's already stopped raining and the sun is shining. Where did the rain go? Ending was a bit of let down really.
The village, when u first start playing because ur not that skilled at shooting so ur just like AHHHHHH i had to fend off five people with just the knife.
The Island was the best level, the castle is a very close second if not tied with the island i thought it was a bit too long but still amazing, and the village only comes in third cuz it's the easiest and least intense. Those are the obvious levels for those of you who can't figure out that the game is actually divided into three of them.
Lets see. Going by environments, i personally liked teh village the best. It just had better atmostphere (due partly to being outside :P)

Scariest... When you turn around and theres a chainsaw behind you and you are reloading your gun, and you jump up and start mashing the button in hopes you hit teh dude while your heart stops. I love it!!! Also when i couldn't figure how to be the regeneratiing dudes. God i was freaking out cuz i had like.. 1/100 of a life left and limited amo and he kept following me!! lol... also for some reason whenever i got stuck in a bear trap that i did't see.. that made me jump lol. oh and getting mauled by a dog from behind... thats never fun . GOD I LOVE THIS GAME
