Im playing it through for the first time and the first bits are kinda lame but when once u get suit upgrades and start facing a few bosses (which are absolutely epic btw) it turns into a fun game. Hard, but good.glitchesofwaryeah the bosses are pretty epic
i hated this game. WAY too much backtracking. To each his own though.stevoluvmunchyeah i enjoyed it but backtracking is really getting on my nerves, its getting kind of annoying

yeah the bosses are pretty epic I reckon the best MP boss is either Quadraxis or Ammorbis. I loved the epicness of ammorbis and how it jumped around.
Metroid Prime is an incredible game. I thought it was the one of the most atmospheric and totally immersive videogame experiences I've ever had. That being said though, there are still certain things that I can understand would turn people off. The backtracking is one of them. I never had a problem with this because every time you went back to a placeyou had visited before, you come back with a slew of new weapons and abilities which just makes those areas feel different somehow.
But honestly, there is so much that sets that game apart. There is literally nothing like it. It's so damn original. But to theoriginal poster, you really gotta give that game a chance. In the beginning it is kinda slow and dull, but it really pulls you in as youmove along. Omega PirateI'm sure willgo down in your list of favourite boss fights of all time.
Am I weird? I really like backtracking.
I also love scanning everything and realizing that everything in the game has a purpose for being and a history.
It may not be the best gamecube game, but I cant think of one that is better.

I liked going back as well, cos not only are you going back, but with your new powerups you are making mincemeat of previously pesky enemies. Not only that but you can freely explore diverging paths on the way back.
My recomendation is to turn the hint system off, that way it doesn't feel so much like backtracking and being ushered from point a to b, instead the exploration has a more natural feeling to it rather than a backtracking feel.

Yeah... although if you're clueless like me, then you probably need the hint system. :|
I enjoy this game but it wasnt as good as i thought it would be sense everybody is saying its the best game for the gamecube.monkey2go
That's called opinion....everyone have its own :D
You've barely even scratched the surface of the game.I've played pretty much every good GC title and I feel comfortable saying MP is the best of the Cube and best of lat gen. The only game that I think can touch it is RE4.Rocky32189
I agree exactly with those statements.

There was nothing wrong with backtracking and scanning in this game, other than to separate true gamers (who can appreciate and aren't that impatient) from the rush rush rush mentality of gamers-lite.
It is the best GC game, and it was the best game of last generation, no question. I'm happy to see a game this uncompromising and complete amidst all the same ole same ole dumbed down games compromised for the casual masses.
I have never played a sp non-RPG that continues to seem better and better with each and every playthrough, except with Metroid Prime, a game I gave a rare (for me) perfect score to BEFORE replaying it again and again.
Me and the critics agree, one of the best games all-time.
Also, trust me, this is one of the few GC games that will stand the test of time, and will be highly playable years from now. The game is ahead of its time. Its the very base of any exceptional GC collection.
Oh, and to the threadstarter, you get the Spider-Ball after you beat Thardus, the rock Boss in Phendrana. If you just landed in Phendrana you still have a few power-ups to get first, including the Boost ball and Wave Beam.
The Spider-Ball and Thardus are my fav power-ups and Boss in the game as well :) .
[QUOTE="Doomtime"]I don't believe age is a factor on a great game. battalionwars13

Yeah, definitely... especially since the Gamecube's hardware (and the 6th gen in general) is advanced enough that games can have great gameplay and artistic style without technical limitations getting in the way. I.E. Metroid Prime would probably not have been nearly as amazing if it was on the N64.

That's how I first played MP, cos I'm useless at games like this (or I was) and I get lost easily. For MP2 however I turned it off...never relied on it once. I supposed at that time I'd developed the right habits for this sort of game (and the map, being completely 3D is a godsend in itself).
Though it did mean I played through MP mostly because I spent £40 on it. The truth is I didn't enjoy MP, I didn't get what I was supposed to be doing or what I was aiming for other than the mindless A to B missions presented by the hint system. The true way to play the game is to clear your mind of goals and destinations and simply explore...don't worry about whether you are progressing or sidequesting...just explore, and it all falls into place. Only near the end of MP did that finally hit me (and the Meta Ridley fight in itself made up for the fact that my first play through was a rather unremarkable snooze-fest).
As I said earlier, when I played MP2 I knew how to play it, what to expect, how to pace myself and the sort of mindset I needed to be in. MP is very particular like that, you either have the traits to play the game, or you don't.
