Village eh!?
Well, you can make it easy, or u can make it hard.
lets start by the hard, u trigger the chain saw guy. This, u definately need the shot gun for. And ur shots must count, shoot in the end always.
If u want it easy, well, there is a hill to the right of you. That is a dead end, so u know ur back is covered. Make sure u're good with ur hand gun ammo, and a grenade helps as well. Now, lear enemies to you. After a specific kill count, they will leave.
PS, Camping here doesn't trigger the cut scene, and it doesn't trigger the chainsaw guy.
For starters I think you should start the game again from the beginning, be sure to pick up all the ammo you can find (go looking in all the houses) Get the shotgun if you don't have it already. Make good use of Leons roundhouse kick, it can really go a long way to saving ammo, the same can be said for the knife; knife em when they are down or if you think you've done enough damage to them already with your guns.
you could also stay on one spot wich helps. try the house where you find a shotgun right next to it there is a window go trough it and keep going right and you should now come to a dead end stay there and finish them off with ease while they come at with 5 or more of em and the shotgun will do the job with a few shot you could take out all 5 of em if you aim right;)
keep trying its very easy xD
Is it sad that I can't make it past the first village right after you go through the first set of doors. I survive for a little while then I run out of ammo or the chainsaw guy cuts my head off. Did anyone else have issues with this? This is my first survuval horror game and my first RE game. It is fun as hell I only wish I could advance...roboccsAlright, don't run into the village. Pick guys off as far away as possible. When no one is coming, reload and pick up anything your enemies drop. Keep doing that and if it gets to bad, barricade yourself in that house with the shotgun.
go into the house with the shotgun, run up the stairs and grab the shotgun. then turn around and jump out the window. once outside, you should see a different house right in front of you. run toward it, kick open the front door, go inside close that door, and then do the same with the other door inside of the house.
you should be in this small bedroom with the door closed, and i believe there is a box of bullets or a health plant inside.
anyway, stand a few feet back from the door with the gun of your choice (mine would be the shotgun) pointed at it. now sit and wait for the mofos to bust thru and pop heads when they do open it.
also, try to lob a grenade into the living room of this small house from the safety of the bedroom, and make sure to save a few shotgun blasts for the chainsaw psycho, cuz he'll join the fun momentarily. ;)
this game's going to get a lot harder from here on end, and i hope you enjoy it.
Use a shotgun and any grenades you've got. Keep aiming at the head or 'legs with pistol )if he can get "downed," I haven't played in a while.)-then the head with the shotgun.
As for the waves of the "possessed" guys, get inside a house with upstairs and downstairs. If they put up a ladder, push it down. Block the door with a dresser. Use grenades on large groups. If someone is about to throw something at you, shoot the hand that its in. If you have the chance, in certain situations, a special attack comes up via pushing A and the enemy is in a certain position relative to you. Those attacks like "kick" and "suplex" take care of people rather well and are handy when short on ammo.
Lets take it easy, first of all start the chant....boom headshot, boom headshot, Boom Headshot, Boom Headshot, BOOM HEADSHOT, BOOM HEADSHOT, BOOM HEADSHOT, BOOM HEADSHOT!!!!!!!!
In all seriousness, give yourself time and just keep on practicing and soon enough you will be aiming like an expert. I give you about 2 weeks of just playing it and you will be masterful at aiming, dodging, running, 180 spins. You are gonna be so Leet at this game, but you gotta practice. I sucked when I first played it and now I can run through this game in my sleep.
Dont forget to shoot them in the legs as they run toward you, and when they fall over pump your bullets in their heads.
If you're really desperate, one neat trick is to enter the village (not through the alternate path on the left) and enter the house opposite the shotgun house. If you keep running, by the time you enter the house, you should have been spotted, but not surrounded. Get the door closed and shoot two bullets into the door to open a small hole. Knife the enemies through the hole. Enemies will try and attack you but won't connect and when nobody's nearby you can take anything they drop (sometimes without opening the door). Also you can kick enemies 'through the hole' without opening the door. You should never get hit if you did this right. After everyone leaves then you can get the shotgun. If you do this, then you won't deal with any chainsaw people, so you will miss out on the rewards they give you when they get killed.Game_Addict247
after reading most of these suggestions, i'm going to stick with using my tacitc and game addict's as well, since we're both talking about the same house that you need to hide in. i would suggest my tactic with grabbing the shotgun tho, since you SHOULD kill the chainsaw psycho to pick up the gold that he drops, which is worth a bit of money that you'll need to upgrade your weapons later on.
if your playing on pro you could use a diffrent tactic but you to kill the chainsaw first because he can slice down doors, once he's dealed with !!!
go to a house where the enemies can't get in from behind ya and then shoot 2 hols in the door and then start knifing around you should kill them all and you wont get any hit if your doing it right it should buy you alot of time;)
i say try it out it should do wonders if you stay on one spot.
give up now its only going to get harder for you...u shall lose your head many times.homer261984
That is true, if you can´t get past this part, you will have a really really hard time completing the game.
yeah the chainsaw dude takes like 4-7 shots depending on how far you are away from him, and you gotta kill like 14 villagers and they stop coming
Play the game on easy and you'll have the shotgun already with you when you start. I wouldn't use the shotgun until just before you get to the village. Make sure that you can are happy changing weapons because you'll need to do this a bit as you progress through the game. Also don't go too crazy with the shotgun because you'll run out of ammo before you know it.
Make sure you pick up ammo from dead villagers when and if you can so that you don't run out of ammo. If you do run into that chainsaw guy shot him in the head and make sure that you have enough space around you to run away if you need to. Before you know it the church bell will ring and the village will be cleared.
lol run away from the chainsaw i have the guts to kill him with the knife xD
and dont play on easy just start on normal and after pro xD

Not true. The beginning of the game is actually often the hardest part as one tries to get a hang of the controls and the general gameplay. If he's just shooting he'll never get through this part, that's why the village is so cool... it's just an awesome way of going through a tutorial.
If he finally gets the hang of "headshot"->"run towards enemy"->"use context-sensitive command (often: kick)"-> "either retreat or finish them off" he will be blazing through RE4.
Wow, great tips! I can't believe all the response this topic received. THANKS!roboccs
RE4 is pretty popular, so whenever anyone sees a thread on it, everyone rushes to it. :P
My first resident evil game was the remake of the original for the GameCube, it was also my first survival horror game. Of course, it was a little difficult at first, because it doesn't play like a lot of other games, and I wasn't used to it. The same goes for Resident Evil 4. The best pieces of advice I can give for RE4 are the following:
1. Save as often as possible. The most important rule, because there's no limit to the number of times you can save, as long as you have a typewriter in front of you. Previous RE games had a limit (you had to obtain ink ribbons). Also, keep in mind that every time the screen loads for a new zone/area (section of the map), the game automatically gives you a checkpoint. This lets you experiment with different techniques right after you either save or enter a new zone. If you die, you can simply go back.
2. Conserve your ammo and healing items. You can't just kill everything you see. Think of enemies as obstacles, not targets. One way to get past them is to shoot them, another way is to go around them. The more enemies you avoid, the less you will drain your ammo. The same goes for healing. If you survive a zone while using too much ammo and/or healing items, sometimes it is better to restart the zone anyway. You will find that you will use up less of your items each time.
3. One headshot > many bodyshots. This is true for many games with guns. The best method when targeting is to take an extra second or two to line up the laser with the head. If they stagger, make sure to press the action button near them. It makes all the difference.
4. Never kill the merchant. If you want to see what it looks like, save your game first, then kill him and reset your game. If you save afterwards, kiss him and all purchases goodbye.
I hope these tips help you. Of course, Resident Evil 4 is far more complex than this. If you want more detailed info, I suggest getting a player's guide, or reading a faq/walkthrough.
