Just to give you an idea, I'm a pretty casual gamer, but I like most genres. I'm always up for something different; on the other hand, I've always checked out the Marios and Zeldas every generation.
So, what would you advise? Any help would be great.
I 'm not a big fan of Fire Emblem, but Killer7 and Beyond Good and Evil... You want to make me CHOOSE between these?! If you want something different (derranged and insane is a better way of putting it), you'd be hard pressed to find something better than Killer7. For a more coherent story and amazingly deep and loveable characters, BGaE is the way to go. Get both.

Beyond good and evil is a fantastic game. I would say it was one of my favourite games for the GC ever. You can pick it up quite cheap. I wouldnt advice you get killer7, its not eveyones cup off tea.
