Resident Evil 4 is the first game i've played in this series and it's really awesome.  By far the best action/shooter game I've ever played on a console.

So now I'm thinking about checking out another game in the series.  Thinking maybe RE 1 (Remake).

Anybody else out there started with playing #4 first and then also found out they really enjoyed #1?  Or is it going to be a letdown going back to #1 after playing 4?

I've been reading reviews and I've seen where lots of people point out that the two are different games.  Part of me thinks though that even if #1 is half as good as #4, it would still be better than 90% of the other games out there.

Just wondering if anybody had any thoughts.  Especially those who played #4 first and then went backwards to the others.

Thanks.

im a huge RE fan and have been since 1996 so you must listen to my advice! re4 is very different than any other re game to date. you may like REmake but theres a chance you wont. compared to todays standards the controls are a 'lil' clunky! personally i love the hell outta the game but you may not! BUT! the game is very cheap cuz the gamecube is dying so i say buy that bad boy baby!

In RE 1 the camera angle is different, holding items is different, and aiming is different.

I've been on the fence about it.  See alot of people saying it's scarier than 4, which appeals to me.

But I get the feeling the movements and controls will probably not be as good.  I've watched some video reviews of it though and it still looks pretty good visually.

I figure I can probably get the game on Ebay for something like $8-$10.  So probably not a lot of financial risk there and it would have to be pretty bad to not at least be worth that.

Hi there,

I really tried to do help you by answering your question in your other topic, and there I also mentioned the difference between the older REs and RE4. I suggested that you should start with REmake, and if you like it you could check out the others. You could compare my review of REmake with my review of RE4 and you'd basically have a pretty good idea of the differences.

Just to answer the points you mentioned in this post (and mentioned in my review):

REmake looks AMAZING

It is NOT an action/shooter game but more a game with mostly puzzle elements

Tastes differ; except for one little cutscene in the beginning of the game I didn't think REmake was scarier or more gory than RE4 (I'd say the opposite), but many other gamers see it the other way around.

The controls aren't intuitive, but they aren't bad at all if you'll select the right control configuration.

I bought REmake after seeing a ton of good reviews and after playing and LOVING Resident Evil 4. Sadly, I didn't like it as much as everyone else seems to have. Still, I haven't given it much of a chance yet. I only played it for about an hour and didn't really get into it. Maybe when/if I pick it up again I'll like it more. The best I can tell you is to rent it, and if you like the style of gameplay, DEFINATELY buy it. I'm sure it's a good game... maybe it's just not my style, or I haven't given it enough of a chance yet.

I used to play REmake for snack here and there. I would do something, O CRAP ZOMBO then run and save. That's not how to play.

You need to give it a good run through before saving. You need to plan out which directions you need to go. Despite how hard an area looks, whether it's crawling with zombies, you have no ammo, etc., just keep pushing. When you get to the end, you'll realize how great it feels accomplishing the end. I did end with tons of revolver ammo at the end...

Its very good, alot scarier and the puzzles are freaking hard.

Dont expect it to be the same as RE4, control and Camera wise though.

The simple answer? Yes you'll love it, considering it's the original and best.

You might like it, but it's very different in terms of gameplay to Res 4.
