I think the game is underrated. It deserves a 9 at least I think.Of course mario 64 was better and it had the novelty of 3d but this game is not your avarage platform game.
It has big, open envoriments , tight controls , unique visuals and eventually lots of play time.I know it has it's wrongs (bad music and sound overal, limited freedom collecting stars etc.) but it still deserves higher than it's score.
Everyone criticises it based on the other mario games (in fact only Mario 64) and eventually making it's mistakes so big deal.
I still play this game and enjoy it. (and I have never experienced a camera problem as far as I remember)
I think it's a great game and had a blast playing through it. There's really a diverse amount of challenges that keep it interesting and entertaining. And some of those obstacle courses are pretty rough!
The only time I found the camera to be sketchy was in the "Runaway Ferris Wheel," where you have to climb those wire fences. Aside from that one level, I don't understand why people harp on the camera so much.
I've never played Super Mario 64. Maybe I'd be singing a different tune if I could compare the two...
i only have 18 shine sprites and i love this game as well! i like it more than super mario 64 actually, just bc i find it more appealing. the only thing is getting mario to jump some places is hard to do, but oh well.
oh, now that im thinking of it... how many shine sprites do you have (on average) when you beat the story (not when you have collected them all)?
you owe it to yourself to play this game. the first 3d game to completely nail (as well as you can on a n64) 3d movement. simpyl groundbreaking and it laid the foundatiojns for lke any other game that exists today. and its fun.I think it's a great game and had a blast playing through it. As I see it, Mario Sunshine it´s an excellent sequel to Mario 64. I really dont understand those people who hate this game but love 64 instead.
Its ilogic, come on, you got to admit that Sunshine its a gorgeous Mario game indeed, to me the best of it is the full control you got over Mario, and I dont know what sort of problems you could have had with it, to me it is even better than 64´s... back in those days I used to spent hours jumping from here to there, amazed by how I was able to control Mario that much, and that same feeling gave me Sunshine, whatsmore, with FLUDD you can even make more different jumps, giving an extreme control over Mario and his jumps, more than 64 could have offered.
The camera is great, I ve never got a single problem with it, it has improved a lot since 64. But theres something here that some people has to admit, this is no easy game, Its a Mario platforming game. if you are looking for an easy, silly platforming game go look elsewhere. Mario is King in platforming, and I think that true Mario fans (( including myself )) will always expect from Nintendo to bring us eachtime a more challeging game worth of the "Mario" title. Personally, I truly see Sunshine as a sequel to 64, but not a sequel for everyone, but for those "veterans" who loved 64 and were left thirsty for more platforming, more of "that" excellently designed and unique platforming.
I dont know if you will all agree but Sunshine gives me the same feeling that gave me Majora´s Mask 7 years ago, after finishing Ocarina I was left with thirst for more, and then Nintendo released Majora as a sequel to Ocarina, a sequel more challenging that its predecessor, not a better nor worse game, but a more polished game, a game for Ocarina "veterans" who were eager for more. Dont know if you get what I mean :), whatever.... Super Mario 64 rocks! Super Mario Sunshine rocks!! and so will Galaxy, but even more!! , that will surely not be a 64 nor Sunshine sequel, but a new leap in Mario´s gameplay. My gosh, Im going nuts :P please Nintendo release it now! I know you got it there somewhere hidden!, making it wait for the perfect time to come... sigh
