Well, I bought the game a while ago never really got into it. The fighting style felt weird and i couldnt seem to feel like I was really enjoying it. I only got to the desert'ish area and went into the tomb thing. Does the game get better? Will it stay the same? Please give me some feedback cause i've heard its a great game, just not sure if its right for me.spickysports
I have the same problem. Bought back in June and just couldn't get into it. I think it's due to the way the combat system is set up. I'm so use to turn based combat instead of characters moving around all the time.
IMHO, no... I thought the opposite, I thought the story was interesting and exciting at first, but then got pretty boring and VERY dragged out after about 20 hours in... And it only gets easier, not harder, as far as the combat goes... I think it's rated as a "great game" because of it's unique visual style and combat, and mainly because its the only JRPG for the GC. skreetpreacha
What?
Baiten Kaitos
Baiten Kaitos Origins
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Phantasy Star Online
Phantasy Star Online Episode III CARD
Lost Kingdoms
Lost Kingdoms II
Fire Emblem
Paper Mario

What about those JRPGs?

none of those that I know of are JRPGs...
Baiten Kaitos is about strategic card battling, Paper Mario is nothing like a JRPG, Fire Emblem is also strategy from what I've heard, Phantasy Star is a fantasy MMO, and I don't know about the others.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand JRPG to stand for a traditional Japanese Role Playing Game, ala Final Fantasy, Tales games, Chrono, Secret of Mana, Xenosaga, Kingdom Hearts, etc.
Strategy games like Baiten Kaitos and Fire Emblem certainly have RPG elements in them, but from my understanding, they're about as close to a JRPG as an X-Men Legends game or Zelda.
That's my definition too... although I thought that Baten Kaitos was a pretty true-blue JRPG. :? Fire Emblem is definitely an SRPG though.correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand JRPG to stand for a traditional Japanese Role Playing Game, ala Final Fantasy, Tales games, Chrono, Secret of Mana, Xenosaga, Kingdom Hearts, etc.

whats traditional about all those games you mentioned? they ALL have different battle systems, Baten Kaitos is not a Strategy game, it's a turn based RPG, but uses random cards... it's really NO different than Final Fantasy outside of the battle system...
JRPG is more of a generalization rather than a definite genre, so it covers alot of areas, including games like Fire Emblem, which are RPGs and Strategy games, which feature heavy anime st-yle stories (which is very prominate in JRPGs)... and crap... if Secret of Mana is an JRPG to you, but Zelda isn't? ugh...
FE and Zelda definitely aren't JRPGs... FE games are SRPGs, and Zelda games are action-adventure.zh666

Zelda games are action-adventure.Funkyhamster
that might be your perspective, but not mine.. I've been playing Zelda games since the late 80s, along with Dragon Warrior, Ultima, Final Fantasy and others... I've always lumped Zelda in with those games, and along with Star Tropics and Crystalis and others... they're action rpgs, while FF, DW, Ultima were turn based.. at this time for me, adventure games were Maniac Mansion, and other point and click type games
when the 16 bit era came around, nothing changed, there was Lagoon, Secret of Mana, Illusions of Gia, Soul Blazer, Secret of Evermore, etc.. plus the Genesis had Beyond Oasis, Ys, and Landstalker... all Zelda clones, and none were ever debated if they're RPGs or not...
I remember when I got the Saturn and PS1, the first games I rushed out to get was Legacy of Kain and Legend of the Oasis.. both Zelda like games, and RPGs... no debate there... then when Zelda came out on the N64... everyone changed their tune to "Action / Adventure"? bullcrap... games like Myst and D were adventure games
currently games like Hotel Dusk and Phoenix Wright are true adventure games, whats the connection between these games and Zelda? light-puzzle solving?

Yeah, action-adventure =/= true adventure games. Games like God of War and Prince of Persia are also action-adventure... I mean, personal opinions can vary, but the most widely held opinion ****fies Zelda as an action-adventure title and not an RPG.

let me rephrase that, whats the connection between these "Action Adventure" games and real Adventure games?
What makes these Action games Adventures and not just plain ol RPGs?
The association with RPGs is that your players grows in rank or "level" with experience points. Besides Zelda 2, Zelda games have never focused on "levels, experience, or hit points" skreetpreacha
Link "gains levels" by defeating a boss within a dungeon, gaining a heart, by gaining more HP (hit points)...
an RPG to me is when the character is much stronger by the end of the game, than he is at the begining, although today most games use these RPG elements so it gets fuzzy, but back in the 8-bit/16-bit era, the only games that did this was pure and simple turn based and action rpgs like Dragon Warrior and Zelda for example... and to a lesser extent Metroid... Link gets stronger through out the game by learning new skills / abilities, magic, gaining new armor, rings, and equiping new weapons, while gaining more and more HP with Heart Pieces... the only difference is he doesn't gain experience for each kill (excluding Zelda 2).. there's millions of RPGs that take this very stat system and no one denies their RPGness.. for example, Star Tropics, Lost Kingdoms, Silver, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals, and loads of others...

"RPGness", lol. :-)
Yeah, I thought you might bring up Link and his hearts, and... it's not the same as gaining experience, actual "levels", and the hit points I was referring to were the damage amount that shows up on screen when you damage an enemy in most RPGs... The only game at the end you mentioned that I've played was Secret of Mana, which did use all of the above.
