It has a pretty good story line...nothing of Final Fantasy, Metal Gear or whatever else caliber, but there is one there and it does keep you interested. I guess it was at the time where all FPS was nothing but the tip of your gun and a life meter; Metroid Prime went beyond that and more or less made you Samus...you had an in-visor view that made the game super super authentic feel that you were actually samus...not trying to spoil the game, but I remember walking from a warm place into a super cold one, and the entire mask freezes over and then melts when you go into the warm again. Plus you kinda went around scanning things in super lush environments. I think its where you first land on the first level/outdoor planet where you see the grass flowing and ...whats the word...it just brought you into the game and make it super...hell...why cant I think of the word? Anyone have the word I am looking for here?

The atmosphere was incredible. Just standing on that one part of Phendrana Drifts looking over the area, unexplainable. Simply amazing. Retro really turned the classic 2D franchise into a spectacular 3D adventure. Personally, it's my favourite game ever.

The gameply is great. Graphics are amazing (especially for gamecube). Story is good enough for me. Definitely better than hunters. There actually is a story in hunters if you go out of your way to look for it ;)

My favorite part of Metroid Prime is just standing and looking around me.  The environments are amazing, and if it is possible for a video game to be beautiful, then MP definitely is.

You should try scanning things. What I like about the story is part of it is being written in present tense in response to Samus' actions (Pirate Logs) and other parts or written in distant past, complete with apocalyptic overtone.

I can't really specify, but I think it was that Nintendo trully hit the nail on the head for a good exploration game, where you actually thought you were in it. to all those who have played it, you can probably remember that feeling the first time through.

after you beat it the first time, then there is still other things to do. you can do a speed run(which is exhilarating!), you can get all the logs (which really tell a good story about the Chozo), you can get all the scans (which is extremely hard, but it rewards you with a sweet photo gallery), and finally you can collect all of the upgrades (the best is the iceberg for the ice beam).

hope this info helps!

the only single blemish is that when you beat it, you won't have the same experience when you play it again:(   , other than that there isn't a single major or minor thing wrong with it.

b/c chuck norris is the final boss and Master Chief and Samus team up in one level and kick a$$!!!!! jk, it is one of the most absorbing, realistic, innovative-yet-classic games ever created, plus it is a good old school challenging game. BTW the story isn't phenomal but it gets the job done

I find the speedrunning experience more hardcore. More hardcore is good hardcore.

the story works as a puzzle, Samus puts it together in her logbook. Between that and Chozo Lore, the Big Picture of whats going on on Tallon IV is discovered.

What made it worth it? Basically everything, read my review:

There is a pretty decent story, but it is easy to overlook. You have to scan all the computers and look at the readouts. Otherwise you will literally walk right by the plot.

Technically it's a nice game. I could not be more bored when I played it. The story is told by a bunch of text boxes and if you read them all, what you get is very predictable. The game just has no soul.

What made Metroid Prime a great game, that's a pretty good question. The answer comes in that it can basically be called the Legend of Zelda of first-person shooters. It offers some great action and great puzzle elements along with exploration, which I absolutely love. The game itself is set at a good pace for both beginners and veterans (which also includes the difficulty), and I believe it's an absolute joy to play.

Its a great game, Atmospheric, Great graphics, Moody Sound, Intelligent Enemies (space Pirates), Epic Boss Fights, LOTS of exploration and hidden pick ups/power ups, lush environments and if you want it to have a good story it will (alot of people who faulted the story are the same ones who didnt take the time to scan and read the logs etc.).

But its not just that, its the little things like looking up at the sky in a loght drizzle and seeing rain drops accumulate on your visor, or having your visor fog up when yhou walk past a steam pipe... and the intelligent world design, the world centers around a central hub, making backtracking and such much easier as the path you take is recognisable and each area has its own theme (lava, ice, ruin etc.).

In conclusion it WAS the best game last gen for many reasons.

I know I'm going to anger some fans here, but I really couldn't get into MP at all. I played the game at the exact same time I played Beyond Good and Evil so in playing it I couldn't help but constantly compare the games. BG&E just wins hands down for me, the environments have more personality and diffrence between them (I don't care for MP's fire level, ice level, forest level mentality, especially considering that all the environments are linked by coridors regardless of any reason why), the music of BG&E is simply better in all possible ways (better quality, greater range of styles, etc) and it has less backtracking (you spend far more time doing that in MP then actually solving puzzles). Storywise, MP was really unnotable, and yes I did scan everything I saw, and I never felt really engaged by it.

It is perfect. The shift from 2-D to 3-D was well done by Retro Studios and the storyline is great, I think that some people complain about the fact that you need to scan computers to know what's going on, if you don't do that you can beat the game without knowing anything about the storyline.

It seems to me that the atmosphere is the best in any game I have ever played, the game makes you feel like you are on this doomed planet, alone, and taking on your bitter rivals, the Space Pirates. All of the other elements, the excellent graphics, the tight control, and the well written log entries (especially) support the atmosphere and form the game. The story is not very heavy but it's believable and gives you a good reason to keep exploring. If you have played any past Metroid games, and liked them, you will probably adore this game, as it takes all of the elements that made those games great and successfully transfers them to the 3D realm.

Metroid Prime is just straight up an awesome game. The graphics are amazing. The boss battles are epic and massive. Looking forward to getting your next upgrade keeps you playing. Once you play this game you will be hooked. And for 20$ there's no better deal than that
