It's kind of sad.
If you've seen a few of it's star games, Gamecube was still growin when it croaked, and had the potential to surpass that of a PS2, imo. (I have a ps2 as well, dun get angry :] )
The reason really is the Nintendo Wii. Though I support the sweetness of the wii, I would have imagined it to die faster than not. It's still rising. But I thought about it, and how many DIFFERENT games can you have with the concept of swinging and stuff. Some of the wii games are completely stupid and don't utilize the whole wii aspect. But the ones that do get boring because they're all the same.
Also, the nearest Wal-Mart to me doesn't even have gamecube stuff anymore. :[
If that doesn't show it's dead, I don't know what will.
Slowly they got rid of the gamecube when bringing in the PS2
As I was searching for Gamecube Games they were all being replaced by PS2 games
Which was really sad -_- so I got mine off the internet
I still don't think GC is dead as people still play it as of today
And is not always the console in the "shadow" it was great for some others not so great
Wii now has sort of replaced it but it will be like the N64 always coming back to play it
1) Because it didn't have an exclusive racing franchise such as "Gran Turismo" for the Playstation, or "Project Gotham" & "Forza" for the XBOX.
2) People dismissing it as a "kids console" due to the MARIO games probably getting more attention than all the other games available for it.... and maybe a bit of a backlash left over from back when Nintendo used to censor blood & gore from certain games when they were battling it out with SEGA.
3) Stores ditching Gamecube games from their shelves to make space just before the PSP was launched, thus making Gamecube games only findable online.
Five things lead to it's demise if you want to be picky but only one really mattered.
1. No DVD drive
2. Irregular specs on media.
3. Poor third party support.
4. Lack of online
5. Developers not wanting to compete with Nintendo for top titles.
It was a good system, just it was hampered by some rather glaring mistakes.
The one thing that made sure it wouldn't win the last gen was no DVD support. Back then DVD players were still somewhat rare as an everyday item and in places like Japan they sold for hundreds more then any of the last gen consoles. If Nintendo added a DVD player the entire Asian population would have purchased a Gamecube not only when they wanted a game system but also when they wanted a DVD player. That feature alone would have doubled if not tripled the Gamecubes sold and given it a sure second place (maybe even a first) last gen.
Im kinda waiting for nintendogamer33 to come in and talk about how nintendo is still supporting it. If he doesnt then its dead.Minishdriveby
If Nintendogamer stops supporting the GC, then it's completely, utterly deceased. :P @ Nintendogamer if you're reading this
The gamecube isn't dead. There are (I think) still games being released for it and the console lasted as long as the competition. I never saw the GC as a failure and I still don't. It's my favourite console from last gen as there are a lot of great games for it, the graphics are great, the design is unique and pretty cool. The Gamecube will never be dead as far as I'm concerned.CLeRKSfan4lifeamen

What? Dead? Where?
At least in my house and around here is not, he is having his second air.
Why? Because even with my wii, i still got very few games for it, and with the release of the new gen consoles, a lot of guys and stores are now given away their games of GC, and i was there to buying it, i got very precious jewels, like The Twin Snakes, the Wind Waker, Naruto 2, Fire Emblem, Killer 7, not to mention that i still play Soul Calibur 2 or SSBM with my friends, so i can say proudly that the Cube hasn't die around here.

Ok, the fact that you ditched the Gamecube to get the next generation consoles shows that you think the Gamecube is dead.
The Gamecube just isn't a viable console anymore when it comes to being current. There's nothing wrong with it either, it happens to every console eventually.
Yeah but nintendogamer33 is extreme to the max!

Nintendogamer is like the definition of hardcore (that's a compliment by the way)... and I feel the same way classicgamerR4 does; it won't be dead to me any time soon even if it's dead sales-wise.
The GC lives on as it is still widely available and Nintendo continues to manufacture the system, it's first-party games, and the majority of it's accessories.

I was kidding, I actually missed you and your speeches. =], you werent on for a while i suppose, so i was thinking maybe the gamecube is dead, but then you returned like a couple weeks later so its be risen from the dead. I guess it could be jesus but Zombies are more menacing. Unless Jesus was a Zombie, then it could be menacing and holy. =o!
