Zelda always means quality. I haven't been let down yet.
But the save system has always bothered me. Would it be so unreasonable to have a save point half way through a dungeon? Or at least at the boss room door.Â
Actually, Zelda is starting to get stale for me. They're always well made games, but I guess I just would like to see a greater variety of side quests, and more depth in the interacting with the NPC's. And how about some new battle items that come in handy more than once or twice.Â
Also sometimes I find Zelda games get way too super-duper-fantasticly-fabulos-happy-happy-boing-boing for my tastes. Like Malo Mart in Castle Town (TP), or Tingle.Â
I don't know. The series has been wearing thin for me lately.
Cause Zelda is a bigger name than MGS. It was around longer, more games, is a household name, etc, etc. Not saying that MGS is bad at all, but Zelda is broad with its audience. LegendaryscmtWait your telling me you like Zelda because it has a bigger name than MGS. Any way links adventures have great puzzles fun combat and plenty of items. (But i do not see why people like the GBA and Phantom HourGlass because those are just boreing in 2D mainly because all combat is done with on button. That was fun in the Early 90's and 80's but not in 2007)
What makes Zelda so good to me, is that its always been the perfect Hybrid game that becons to many different styles and aspects. Its the one series that truly rises above being labelled or pigeon-holed into one specific genre, thus it has a little something for everyone.
It has RPG elements including simple yet entertaining stories, PLATFORMER aspects, fantastic ACTION sequences, and also some interesting PUZZLE solving sections. It binds all these elements together in a package few other games have ever dared to strive for, let alone accomplish. Add to that the fact that Zelda games are ALWAYS made with top notch graphics and gameplay, and you've got one of the greatest gaming series of all time, and for good reason.
I think, in a sense, Zelda is a bit of a sandbox RPG. While you can't choose your own character, and there are no statistics, menu driven battles, etc....you are definately thrust into this very living breathing world to be seen through the eyes of Link. The Zelda series all different types of gameplay, and let's the player determine the pace at which they wish to move through the game. While ultimately linear, the games hide the linear aspects of the games from the player by offering a multitude of small tasks and secrets to be discovered.
Now, in this day and age, there are many other games that offer what has been stated above ( Metriod and Castlevania come to mind ). The difference between them and Zelda is the dungoens. Zelda dungoens are the most addictrive part of the game though the concept is simple enough. The real draw is that each dungeon is very distinct, and much different from the rest of the game. Often while going through a Zelda dungoen, a player will become so focused on completing that dungoen, that they will not see the overworld again until the dungeon is completed. The sense of satisfaction of completion coupled with the releif of returning to the familiar overworld with a new outlook because of the new items gained, is the aspect of Zelda that I feel no other game has successfully emulated.
For these reasons, Zelda remains somewhat unique within the gaming world.
Like the previous poster said, there is no secret like a Zelda secret.
