I recently got a TurboGrafx-16 and have been having a blast with it. But I noticed that quite a few games have 2-player option, which may not seem that odd to many of you since two-players have existed since Pong. But problem with TurboGrafx-16 is that it only has 1 controller port. That's right, just 1. And it doesn't have another controller port on the controller itself, like CDi, so I'm baffled to how I'm supposed to play 2-players. Especially with a game like Fighting Street (Street Fighter 1 retitled), which has both players on the screen at the same time playing. So it's not like you can take turns with the controller. ??? Anyone know what I'm not seeing here?

Multi-tap. 3DO also had one controller slot. All consoles used to have multi-taps to play games more than 2-players until the N64 came out, that was the first system with 4 controller ports.

the 3DO actually has extra controller ports on each controller, so that controller 2 was connected to the controller 1, that way , up to 8 players I think could connect. pretty unique.

Actually the Bally Astrocade had four controller ports. As did initial Atari 5200 systems.... it was reduced to two with the hardware revision that also split the RF and power cable.

A multi-tap for 4 players makes sense. But a multi-tap for 2 players is a freaking rip-off! Even Pong and Atari 2600 had 2 controller ports! Stupid, greedy NEC.

In fact the Wii supports the full five players. (using a combination of Gamecube and Wiimote/Cl@assic controllers)

Personally I don't feel that the virtual console gives that same satisfaction as actually owning these old games.

So I could either have the totally awesome, rare, retro TurboGrafx-16, thta is a totally unique gaming system. Or I could buy a Wii and get roms of old games that try to simulate that games, and only a fraction of those games. Yeaahhh, I'll just stick with my TurboGrafx-16, thanks.
