In many forms of multimedia, there are sequels. These include books, movies, and games. Last year's summer blockbusters in movies were Shrek 3, Spiderman 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (#3). Also in books there was a little novel called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which was the last in the series.

Games in particular, last year, had a few sequels like PGR4, Forza 2, Halo 3, Ace Combat 6, NFS ProStreet, Ratchet & Clank FTOD, COD 4, Graw 2, Guitar Hero 3, Metroid Prime 3, Super Paper Mario, Unreal Tournament 3, Virtua Fighter 5 and Virtua Tennis 3. Last year was mostly about the new franchises like Assassin's Creed, Crysis, Mass Effect, Portal, BioShock, Heavenly Sword, Super Mario Galaxy, and Uncharted.

This year however, the sequels to almost all of the favorite franchises are coming to bring pain to our wallets. Games like GTA 4, MGS4, SSBB, GoW2, and many many others are paving a way to one of the greatest blockbuster gaming years I have ever seen. I truly think this year will greatly surpass 2007's mark and set up a whole new bar to achieve. There couldn't be a better time to be a gamer!

Games have definitely become a great presence in the entertainment industry and have continued to grow bigger and better. So I have one tip for anyone who loves games: START SAVING UP!!!

I cannot wait for these awesome games to start rolling out! We've started the year off with a bang already with the new additions of DMC4, Burnout Paradise, and of course, SSBB. If all of the sequels keep to their schedule, we will be seeing one for the history books.

Funny, I was thinking the very same thing today...

Just to add, though, it's also the year of Prequels... God of War: Chains of Olympus and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 are both prequels, and it's just a third of the way through the year.

I also think Valve's working on Portal 2...

It's great that these games are coming out! Doesn't matter if they are sequels at all. Can't wait to burn a hole in my wallet.

Yeah, 2008 might not give us as many games as 2007, but it certainly will give us better games.

o ya, i totally forgot bourne ultimatum was the best action movie ive seen... havent seen oceans 13 yet tho...

as u probably have heard by now, SSBB is the greatest investment you could ever make for a game on the wii.

i'm pretty sure 2006 had a few sequels aswell, there is always gonna be sequels, i like sequels generally but i don't really like people saying "this is the year of the sequel" cos every year is the year of the sequel untill the next year of the sequel..... rant over.

1. Super Mario Galaxy and Portal were not new franchises.

2. We've already started the year with Patapon, Sins of a Solar Empire, No More Heroes and Professor Layton, all new franchies, all AAA games. The sequels tend to get more coverage and hype since they're more established but there aren't going to be any less new franchises than in year's past.

It's part of the Half-Life universe and it wasn't even sold seperately until just recently. I'd say it's a spinoff.

Last year was mostly about the new franchises like Assassin's Creed, Crysis, Mass Effect, Portal, BioShock, Heavenly Sword, Super Mario Galaxy, and Uncharted.

Er, might want to wipe that one from the list as a 'new' franchise game. ;)

o, woops sorry.... technically tho it is a totally new Mario game and is not a direct sequel to SMSunshine..... Its more like a new adventure to the Mario games
