quick question, if a game comes out in 3rd person and claims to be like SOCOM and the orginal Ghost Recon, and have really good game play, will you get it even tho it is in 3rd person? or you will pass on the offer, and only get the game if it was in 1st person. OR if the game offer the option to play in 1st or 3rd person will you get it and play in the mode you like?

No I will only get it if it is First Person. Automatic pass if it turns out Third Person.

It doesn't matter too much to me. I'll play either way, but I've grown bored of most FPS games and still enjoy third-person action games.

Third person.

I never have much fun with first person.

doesn't matter too much to mee.
both might have their ups and downs, even if the up or down is my own preference.

so I guess it'd be other things in the game that would make or break it for me, not the perspective!

[spoiler]

RANDOM THOUGHTS I GUESS:

- either can run into a problem of being shoot things -> hide and regenerate health -> repeat, and third person shooters seem like they could run into it even easier because of cover systems.
- not that cover systems or even regenerating health are necessarily bad all the time, and that process could be there but not be completely simple.

- first person might be easier to get certain types of immersion, but I guess it'd depend on the game and player.

- I guess there is the debate between which is more 'realistic'.
I remember the people from Bohemia Interactive saying that third person could have an edge in some ways even though it's not from the first person view that could look visually more 'real', because of being aware of where your character's body in a way closer to how you might be in real life, that might be easier than a first person view.
- BUT I do find that a 'smooth' feeling first person view with a good field of view can give you a good sense of your character's body as well.

- third person could let you see around corners without exposing any of your character's body. might or might not be a big deal.

- seeing a character move around and seeing your character's hands moving around can both look cooool

Well if it was a game like SOCOM of Ghost Recon, I probably wouldn't be interested.. But anyone, I don't know if I have a preference, though having said that I think over the last few years I've gravitated more towards 3rd person shooters, or just 3rd person games in general.

you want people to pick one or the other, but then you add an option to pick BOTH.. nothing wrong with a well done 3rd person shooter (with good feel to your character movements) Its a throwback to all the stealth games like Spliter Cell and MGS, the key is just that it has to be very well done. Action games work too where a good example is gears of war. But i would never buy it if it was a cover-based shooter because thats boring..

Both? I enjoy both equally as much. Doesn't matter to me at all.

personally I can't stand third person competitive games. If it's single player or co-op I don't really mind if it's 3rd or 1st person but with competitive multiplayer, it has to be 1st person because 3rd person usually just consists of hiding in cover or around corners and moving the camera so you can see over cover or around the corner and poping out at the last second to get a kill.

For me multiplayer shooters have to be 1st-person, I can't stand the third person perspective in multiplayer. On the other hand, I much prefer the third person perspective for most other types of games, like action or RPGs.

Doesn't matter. I play an equal amount of third-person and first-person, and don't mind either perspectives.
