Anyone have any recommendations? What's the one TV that any gamer should get? I currently have a 42 inch LG HDTV which is actually broken. It works, but there is image persistance/burn-in which leads to images being temporarily left on screen if the image is 'still' for a while(say, if you pause a game and leave for 10-15 minutes, you come back and start it back up, but you can still see the prior image you paused on in the background) and this problem has become VERY annoying over the past year and I just can't get used to it anymore. This combined with the fact that the picture quality overall is poor with poor black levels, it's time to get something new. I'd prefer to keep the budget <$800. You may still recommend more expensive options if you think the extra money is worth it.

is it possible to even find bad quality 55" TV with that budget?

what is your viewing distance? do you even need that large TV? you get better price-quality ratio with panels if you can settle for smaller screen.

I feel like I do because my couches are pretty far from my current TV. When I want to game for a while, I usually find myself having to pull up a chair to sit closer to the T.V. especially on games like MLB The Show and Battlefield

well sounds like you could use a bigger TV then. with quick glance it seems like these modern TVs are filled with useless extra-junk to pump up the price. 3D, WiFi, NFC, Miracast, MHL, DLNA, Simplink, USB PVR, Skype.... ugh. i feel dizzy.

Been a while since I shopped for a TV. I have never heard of NFC, Miracast, MHL, Simplink, USB PVR??

I'm looking for basically the same thing right now.

So far I'm leaning toward a Samsung. They run higher than $800 though. Closer to $1200 for the one I'm looking at.

My current TV, a 42" plasma, is also suffering from burn in. And I got it in 2006 so while it will do 1080i, it doesn't do 1080p and only has one HDMI port. The Samsung I'm looking at has 4, which is pretty perfect for my setup. One for each console then I can run the HD cable box through the X1.

DO what I do. Go and search amazon by checking boxes on the left to narrow down your choices including price and read reviews from people. Its a hell of a lot faster than waiting around on a forum for people to reply where most answers wont even directly answer your question (much like I just did).

I picked up a 50" 50ue6000 Samsung for my girlfriend for Christmas and it looks really damn good once you calibrate it.

Whatever you get make sure its a true 120hz refresh and not a tv that's actually 60hz with some fancy trick the tv plays to make it look 120hz. Don't bother with anything over 120hz because its a gimmick. LED backlit will make a great difference as well. Do yourself a favor and get a soundbar with a sub while youre at it.

Samsung 55 inch 1080p 120hz refresh is $799 right now at Target. If my damned refund ever comes down to my account, I'm thinking of grabbing it to replace my 42 inch one.

Wow, I wonder if it's on clearance. Thanks for the heads up. :)

If you can swing it, try to get one of the 240Hz Samsung tv's with CMR. The framerate driving is friggin' amazing. It's the only tv that I've seen that actually makes the framerate appear much higher. Head to a brick and mortar store and check one out for yourself...
