Judging by the number of employment ads in the back of EDGE they shouldn't have trouble getting a new job. But still... it is always sad to see layoffs like this.
I mean, nothing against MMOs (don't misunderstand -- I personally HATE them, but realize other people don't) but if they aren't making money on them, shouldn't they be trying to go with some more conventional ideas instead of continuously banging their heads against the WoW wall? WoW is a lot like Nintendo this generation -- it's obvious that they've come up with a way that will make money, but only for them. The rest of the market is going to drown in losses. WoW basically IS the MMO market from what I can tell. You can have people with the word "Lord" in their names or popular franchises like Lord of the Rings or Final Fantasy, but isn't that basically where the MMO market is -- WoW? I guess some are trying to go the free to play route, but has that worked any better? is 500,000 subscribers that don't pay anything worth SOMETHING?
Infinity Ward constantly suggests they are hiring on COD4 :P Anyway I don't know how I feel about this, they were working on a pretty interesting MMO, or maybe even multiple MMOs one being set in Korea I believe with all sorts of magical mythical creatures...I don't even remember the names of them, and I remember the names of a crapload of games, so that tells you something about the miniscule potential I thought their games had.
