That would just mean 4 more potential hardware failures.
I dig the idea in theor though. The original game.com (console) had two cartridge slots so you could pick between two games -- that's also a feature I enjoy with the DS.
I've always wanted a console jukebox. They used to sell an add-on for the Sega Genesis that allowed you to plug in 16 (I think) cartridges and you'd choose from a menu which one to play.
Seeing how there are 5-disc CD changers, I always thought they should have that for consoles. Other than making the console big in size, I dont see a reason not to. It's probably not very expensive to put in.
In regards to each disc doing a separate function, I would think that loading times and synchronization of all discs would make this not very desirable.
I was getting ready to watch a DVD on my old multi-disc player the other day. I thought about how convenient it would be if consoles didn't require you to get up to change your games when you probably have several favorites you play. I also wondered if it were possible to seperate the program tasks (graphics, sound, etc.), each on a seperate disc, and have them all operating simultaneously instead of trying to put everything on a single disc. Maybe it doesn't make any sense. How plausible do you guys think any of this is?Termite3030
I see discs as unnecessary clutter and an annoyance that should be alleviated. I'd rather be able to install and play games without a disc. Downloadable content and everything on the HDD is the way to go. Provided I can download every game released on the console, I'd gladly bin the DVD drive in favor of room for a second HDD.
