Mine personally would be the original Jak and Daxter. Having started playing on Jak II then 3, you could imagine my horror at the original. it looks absolutely horrible, worse than Crash 3 (a PSone game) in many respects. Naughty Dog sure got on the ball when making Jak II.

What about the rest of you guys?

Final Fantasy VII....haha...yes. I know a whole bunch of you fanbois/gals love it so very much, but I just played it last year on the PC, and I thought that, while the backgrounds were nice, the character models (as well as other objects based on the game engine) were awful, and due to the hardware available at the time gave a terrible representation of a rich and detailed story. Believe you me, I am not usually one to fuss over visuals, but it really was hard to accept.

One must remember that the PS/N64/Saturn era was indeed the pioneering period of 3D software.

I want to mention an opposite here: Deus Ex. There were so many complaints about the Unreal Engine letting the game down, and fundamentally it did as it was not built for games to have a lot of detail, which made the framerate in DX drop quite a bit. However, IMO it looked (and still looks) pretty good.

Deus Ex

Halo3 other then the Spartan and Elite models, it was ugly and unimpressive. Low textures on humans and environments, not anti-alising (opinion obviously) It just didn't equal the graphic fidelity of other titles released around the same time frame... COD4, Bioshock, etc... Halo: Reach how ever has impressed me.

Not too long ago, I tried playing Xenogears, as I'd never gotten to play it back in the PS1 days. And I gotta say, I just couldn't play through the ugliness of its horrid graphics.

This. I played the PS1 version, and the graphics were unbearable. I'd rather have 2D graphics like FF IV, V, and VI.

It's easy to link stuff which is dated, and all the modern games with terrible graphics that I can think of are not popular.

One of the most ugly games that has recently came out in modern times has to be Fallen Earth.

Do you like BROWN! Nomination for the most brown game in the world! And bare in mind this is an advertisement screenshot, this is them making their game look good.

I have to agree, not really about FF7 as such, but sometimes having really polished 2D graphics is better then bad 3D, at least things looks as they should then. but one popular game I thought looked bad was sonic adventure, the graphics werent bad as such, but I seriously thought that if any game pushed the dreamcast's graphics, Sonic Adventure wasnt that game, I think much of the game could have been recreated on a PS1/Saturn/N64 with enough good programming.

Probably stalker: clear sky. I've heard from people how incredible a game it is and how the graphics are amazing so I bought it. I still don't have a clue why people keep labelling this game as graphically amazing.

I'm going current gen with Halo 3, not because it was so bad. It just didn't look any better than 1 or 2.

MAG.

great game, bad graphics.

runekey
i disagree. i played the public beta and it looked fine to me. it can't look as good as MW2 or Uncharted 2 because of the huge amount of players, but Zipper still managed to make it look good, which is an achievement in itself.

Morrowind. Even at that time, this thing was the outcast of other games. The deformed mutant freak at a beautiful people party, if you will.

That's one I've been meaning to install for a while now (with my new rig.) Stalker games have always looked decent (IMO,) especially considering it's an open world. As for current gen - Far Cry 2. It doesn't look bad, but in many ways it just looks too... bland.

Good games w/ not so impressive graphics?

- Abe's Oddysey & Exodus on PSX

- Half Life on PC

- All 2D Mario Games

These are some that come to mind first.

I thought final fantasy 7 had great graphics for its time. Imma have to say a good game with bad graphics most recently would have to be MAG.
