Heres a new game rental service www.gamerpocket.com. It's still in beta but you can already start using it. Basically you rent from other gamers and you can rent your own games for 5 bucks. There are no membership fees. What do you think? Is this going to work?

Yeah, imagine getting your game and the disc is cracked or scratched and the guy insists that it was fine when he mailed it in. Or if he simple says it got "lost" in the mail. Atleast with GF, there's some customer service.

True. But what if you're protected somehow? Like a warranty.

If there's no membership fee, then I bet there won't be any protection, they can't replace your game for you, and I'm sure they won't be abe to force the renter to do anything either.

Whoa, cool - I like that there is no fee, so I can rent when I want and not end up paying monthly fees for nothing. (grrr gamefly!) The prospect of making money off the games I don't play so much anymore is awesome, too. I'll have to check out their TOS, but I'm prolly gonna give this a shot.

Here is some info from the FAQ page. The question is though, is $5 enough compensation to give away your game for a month?

I am a game owner and my game was returned to me damaged. What should I do?

If this happens, please report the issue on GamerPocket.com immediately. Our customer support team will get in touch with you. Depending on the circumstances, we will be happy to compensate you for the lost or damaged game.

Out of 3 video game mail services I have tried since 2001: Most video games offered for rent, best turnaround time shipping (yes, I have posted on this very forum they are slow but I tried 2 other mail services and they were even slower!!!), best customer service, etc. That's what I was referring to and until another huge site comes along they will never be dethroned.

I agree. But this you're renting from other gamers not from a company. I see some value to the fact that I'm supporting other gamers. Also, since there is no subscription fee, the issue of fast shipping is irrelevant. You pay per game. So if you are about to finish playing a game, you can order the next one, and when the next one arrives you ship your existing one out.

I don't think it'll take off. Looks like the company gets $2.50 for every game rented, so that's how they can pay people back for there games. If I had a large catalog of games just sitting on a shelve I would probably put them up there. I wouldn't rent from them though.

sounds like a good idea. I hated how gamefly had montly fees and I would sit around with a game for over a month, and it adds up. I would've definitely made the switch if I was still renting out games as often as I used to.

There is no way in hell I'd rent my games out to complete strangers for five bucks. None. I like my games in pristine condition. Five measly dollars? The payoff does not warrant the effort and risk.
