No not for me. I love achievements since they add another layer of reward to my gameplay plus it gives you a cool list of tangibles to show off what you've done. I imagine most people liked to brag to their friends that they did such and such in a game at a certain difficulty level and their friends would either brag right back about the same or another game and now with achievements you actually have some proof of these deeds. In fact achievements have given me more incentive to play trough my games more then once or to play through them more thoroughly. I still however will never play a game that I don't like or doesn't interest me since that would be a waste of time as well as take time away from me playing games that I like and I already have more games that I want to play then I have time for anyways.

No one is forcing you to play crappy games. You choose to do that yourself because you feel some need to get achievement points for whatever reason. I buy and play games I want to play, and rarely if ever get anywhere near the 1k achievement point mark for any of them. Playing through Call of Duty on Veteran difficulty makes me want to murder kittens, so I dont do it, period. Especially not for some random digital number added next to my name.

Nothing against achievement whores of course, if thats what you want to do, knock yourself out. I just dont gvie a hoot about achievements. Remember: You are NOT your Gamerscore.

I agree. I play games for the reward of playing the game. If anything gets unlocked, it should be game content, not points that don't really do anything.

Achievements are great if they are creative and only in singleplayer. Multiplayer achievements make many people more concerned about their Gamerscore then actually playing the game for fun. There is a fine line I think between Achievement like rewards and just having some fun, and many online 360 games cross that line. They make it more important to get the achievements so you as a player can up your score. Sure, its online bragging rights but I'd rather bring someone into a match and destroy them and then rub it in their face then say, "look, my score is bigger than yours!"

Singleplayer achievements are fine. I think their great. Multiplayer achievements on the other hand... terrible. Completely ruining why people play online... for fun. At least, that's why I play online. Same goes for online ranking services for PC games (ala Battlefield 2), so many people are concered with raising their ranks then actually just playing the game and having some fun.

most of us dont care about the achievements at all. its just something extra for us to do. i myself once in a great while will play a game more than once to get the achievements. but usually its just not worth it.

That's your fault alone, not the achievement system's.
