Hello,

I am looking for an action adventure game to buy. I have a PC and a PS3. Here is what I like:

What I like best is exploring mysterious/gloomy places and finding secret doors, treasure and things like this. Nicely worked atmosphere and immersion are very important. All this has to be embedded in a good story, that gives some purpose to the actions i take. Open direct combat is acceptable, but its not my thing and the main focus of the game must not be combat. I like action to be in other forms, like stealth or moving though difficult terrain or platforms. I also dont like much role playing games with complicated skill level trees.

Examples of games that I love:

Assassins creed II and Dishonored

Other (very good) games I dont like much:

Diablo, Dark Souls (too focused in combat. With Dark Souls could be wrong, but I tried the game a bit and read the reviews and it seems completely oriented to combat)

Assassins creed IV (I stopped playing after a couple of days because I saw no plot in the story and I read that later it is heavily sealing oriented)

Do you have any suggestion for me?

Thank you!

I def think you should play Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood if you loved AC2. Ezio is still the protagonist and the game is set in Rome.

Have you played Portal 2? It's 3D puzzle game with some very cool enviroments and funny writing.

L.A. Noire is a detective game from Rockstar with basically no combat set in 1940s L.A.

Prince Of Persia 2008 has a very vibrant atmosphere and is mostly focused on fairly straightforward, but enjoyable platforming and a tiny bit of combat. Very beautiful artstyle and a good fairytale like story.

Brothers: A tale of two sons is a little puzzlegame with a relly cool, non-verbal, story. You control two brothers, one with each stick, on their journey to find medicine for their sick father.

Also if you like stealth games like Dishonored maybe you'll like the new Thief. Haven't played it myself so can't recomend it.

Okami HD is a great adventure game its a fairly large game it has varied environments (level look radically different unlike most games nowadays) level aren't really gloomy they're actually very colorful, Okami has a decent amount of treasure hunting & you can keep track of everything in the menu, plenty of hidden areas if you're paying attention. i would say Okami is a enjoyable game to explore, your first playthrough can be easily over 50 hours. also a very good looking cel-shaded art styles age very well (according to Capcom Okami HD runs in Native 1080p). the story is "based" off of Japanese mythology you play as a wolf/dog who is the sun goddess Okami Amaterasu. you start the game waking up from a 100 year nap to learn that the beast Orochi has been freed and you set off the save Nippon.

Okami ps2 review couldn't find a video review for the ps3 version

30 minutes of Okami gameplay/commentary

What came to mind when you wrote that was:

Far Cry 3 - Really fun FPS that takes place in an island full of dark mysteries, secrets, gloomy places etc.

The Uncharted series - matches your criteria PERFECTLY.

Red Dead Redemption also features a lot of creepy, gloomy places and you can hunt for treasures and other secrets. Lots of stuff to do.

The Last of Us - As gloomy and mysterious as it gets.

Limbo - Indie game, 2D, VERY gloomy and mysterious.

Shadow of the Colossus and ICO HD Collection

Good luck!

I'd recommend finding a way to play Zelda Majora's Mask. Game's atmosphere is just so dark and dreary, even in the happier places. Should have what you're looking for. Plus there's side content out the ass.

How the hell is it possible for anybod not to mention Darksider I and II for this long.

Shame on you. And the last four Tomber Raider games. And some digital titles, he does have a PC after all. So Trine and the Lara Croft game. And the God Of War Trilogy.

Yeah this is a very broad genre, specifcally because of the action part of action adventures.
