This series has made it into mainstream telemedia, magazines, and movies as a catch-phrase of sorts for scary gaming... The same way GTA has made a name for itself in crime and violent rampaging. When a movie tries to make a hip gamer reference, they say something is "scarier than 'Fatal Frame' "... Now, beyond throwing up a little in my mouth when I hear Hollywood or Madison Avenue trying to "connect" with the elusive and often fickle gamer nation, I wonder why other games such as "Resident Evil" aren't picked out as the banner for the horror gamer? I suppose it's a lot cheaper to refer to "Fatal Frame" in a movie than it is to license a "Resident Evil" thing, but though it's a classic series in it's own right and very big in some of our minds, but does "Fatal Frame" have that sort of Mario/ DOOM etc recognition?

And - So which is your favorite, how many have you finished, is it one of the most frightening games/series you've played? Let's talk some "Frame", folks!

:D

The Fatal Frame series is a barometer of scary games because it focuses much more on the actual horror. Resident Evil games feel more like an action B-movie.

I finished the first; it was a decent game. I only played a little of the second. Haven't played any others.

The series is called Zero in Japan and Project Zero in Europe.

In my opinion the series went downhill after Crimson Butterfly, but the two first games and specially Crimson Butterfly are some of the best horror games around.

Zero : Mask of the Lunar Eclipse for the Wii (latest in the series) was so-so, albeit a bit too slow and boring.

I personally did not find any game but the first to be scary. The latter two titles (didn't play 4) end up feeling too much like an RPG to me.

I've never actually played any of the Fatal Frame games, but I did recently find Crimson Butterfly for $10 and had to buy it. I hear it is very scary and can't wait to try it out :)

Hmmm, In my opinion Crimson Butterfly made the first game look like some theme park attraction.

Different experiences, I guess. I still find the first to be the scariest.

I have to agree with you on this. I'm hoping the next Fatal Frame game comes out on the other consoles like it did in the past. It was such a hassle getting it for the Wii.

I only heard about Fatal Frame about 3 days ago... I can say by my own experience that Resident Evil is much more popular.

Played part 1 of the series in the dark, wearing video glasses. Yep, it was scary ;)

Agreed with this. I never imported 4 so haven't played it.

I really, really want to play the Fatal Frame games. Please make an HD collection!

Also, every RE besides REmake is too cheesy to be really considered "scary" and more just "unsettling at times." To me at least./ However REmake is ridiculously creepy.

I have the PS2 games, all three. They're pretty good, one of the few games to actually make me jump a few times...

I liked Fatal Frame III. It's the only FF game I've played so far :P

Having played all of them but the first, I can say that Crimson Butterfly is the best one. Fatal Frame III's plot isn't as gripping and the fourth game felt too slow, awkward camera handing with the Wiimote, and just a grind. So plot-wise for me:

FFII > FFIII > FFIV
