IX is the chosen one but hearing input from all the games still is great..even from the more obscure titles like V VI

Well IX was my first and favoruite Final Fantasy and is the only final fantasy with a true old school Fantasy setting imo which i love :P Battles arent that groundbreaking just typical FF battles. Its the best looking FF game on PSONE again imo.

9 has more of the old school archetype classes (you'll get a thief, white mage, black mage, knight, dragoon, blue mage and summoner) and the graphics and scenes are really nice, but for me something stuck out and made it feel kiddy to me. i thought the story was so-so and the final boss is pretty lame for what you go through. 9 has a skill system based on weapons, armor and items equipped.

i always recommend 7 but thats just because it's an awesome game. im sure you know it has a materia system so theres no real character classes. i personally thought the side quests in 7 were more fun than 9, but its not quite as easy on the eyes as 9.

i would recommend all 3 really but in order i'd go 7,9,8

well like I said z4 even if it isn't on the eyes I still could play it...because I would like the gameplay that much...

Heck I still play the fps moh's...they play soo smoothly its unbelievable but the graphics would give you a headache if you played more thanan hour and half lol

7 is perfect for the fist disc but the 2nd disc is full of plotholes, cliches, and lets just say cloud goes from awsome to one of the worst written charecters ive ever seen in a game

8 is a odd one. your going to either love this to death or despise every inch of it. this is the opossit of 7 in my eyes. the first disc is mediocer but past that its fantastic. buy this second since its a 50 50 chance of likeing it. just keep in mind suspension of disbeleif. and that the draw system is only bad if you want to comepletly stock up on magic. peaple underate this system. its not grindy unless you chose it to be.

9 is your best choice for gaurenteed enjoyment. the game is just a delight all the way through. while i do prefer 8 this is a close second. just try to get past the weird charecter desighn's and also when garnet changes her name makes sure it doesnt saty as "dagger" lets just say by disc 3 shes doesnt need the name anymore and she still keeps it. a minor annoyence if you ask me

My personal favorite is FF8 then 9. For the time of their releases it was something visually stunning and they were just really long well written games. I did not care for FF7, just my 2 cents.

Sounds like Final Fantasy 9 is what you're looking for, but I do want to point out a few things. Each of the games do employ the "classic" battle system, just with slight variations in them. Final Fantasy 7 is the standard system except instead of certain characters being able to use magic, anyone can use any magic if they have the right orbs (materia) equipped to their weapons. Final Fantasy 8's system would probably take a few paragraphs to explain, but if you're interested, I'd be more than happy to explain :P. Final Fantasy 9 should be very familiar to you since it employs more or less the same system from Final Fantasy Tactics. You kill things, gain AP for your weapons, your weapons have skills in them specific to your job, and eventually the skills become permanent to your character. There are some slight differences, but I think you get the idea. (Side Note: As far as I can remember, you can not change the jobs of your characters) You won't see anything along the lines of the Sphere Grid or License board though. When it comes to visuals, all of them use fantastic looking pre-rendered backgrounds, but FF8 and FF9's character models definitely outshine FF7. You also mentioned that you'd like the classic jobs. Final Fantasy 9 is the only one who makes it blatantly obvious that you have a black mage/white mage/thief etc. BUT if you pay attention to the characters in FF7 and 8, you'll notice through things like their outward appearance, personality (in some cases), weapons, and Limit breaks that they're clearly intended to represent a specific job.

Thanks for the input guys...I chose number 9 since that seems to best fit...but it doesn't mean I won't play 7-8 either...I'll just wait a while for those

Yeah, FF9 is definitely the best one out of those 3. FF7 and FF8 are pretty good as well, though.

Im currently playing 9 and loving it. 9 hours in and still on the first disc, there's so much to find and so many battles! Try 9 for sure.

9 most accurately represents your description. But I'm still going to recommend 7 to you. :P

VIII is a nice game, but I think IX fits you better. VII is overrated as hell, but it's not that bad either.

IX has the best story and gameplay, IMO, so get that.

IX is my favorite of the three and it fits what you want for the classic feeling with it's characters. You may want to consider Final Fantasy Anthology(V and VI) and Final Fantasy Chronicles(IV and Chrono Trigger) as well. They are both on Amazon new for cheap.

IX is actually a great intro to FF, as it's a lot like the classic SNES entries in the series.

VII has a horrible translation and silly plot, but the gameplay is very addictive. I don't recommend FFVIII as a first choice.

Yeah I saw those on my local used game store and they looked pretty good for around 20$...plus the fact I like those styles of games... But for now I'm pretty busy finishing up tactics and playing FFIX...(Btw I love it so far)

8 is my favourite but the junctioning system can be a little "blah" if you dont figure it out. I'd go for 7 if I was you.

7 has the best story out of the three, but 9 has the best graphics and gameplay.

FF VII was the first one I played, so I will say that one. Excellent story and gameplay.
