I liked Grand Theft Auto III....for 2 hours. I liked Grand Theft Auto:Vice City...for 45 minutes. I feel like they are all the same and capture no interest in me.

I really liked Vice City, never played 3 and I tried San Andreas, played it for a bit, didnt do anything for me.
I havent decided im gonna give 4 a go or not.BoxTrick
I think people are turned off to GTA San Andreas partially because they don't understand black culture in the early 90s, many of the jokes and satire is thrown at popular black movies, and the gangster rap culture which blossomed durin the era...Oh and how America responded to it. I feel like people picked up the game saw that the character was black, were thrown off, and then promptly decided not to invest a lot of time into the game. San Andreas holds up extremely well (especially the PC/Xbox versions), and I must say that it is very rewarding if the players allows himself to get engrossed in the story or more importantly the characters within it. The GTA's all get a bad rap of simply being games you pick up and play sporadically, but I think what separates the GTA's from the rest of the similar sandbox games is that they offer much more.

Well for Vice City, i played it alot, then I stopped, and eventually came back to it and beat it. San Andreas i thought I would do the same thing, but I didnt. Also the whole era and stuff took place in didn't really appeal to me.
Like the guy above, I do perfer a game that is more linear as well. Sometimes I just can get lost and bored with sandbox games.
dude, i can understand why you might not like it. with the lag of good aiming controls and such. but i and so many others it like it because it is pure mayhem stress relieving goodness that is so controversial nowadays.
but i digest, not everyone likes blowing up cop cars with rocket launchers as much as mainstream society. you probably didnt like it cause you didnt play around enough, with the rocket launchers, miniguns and such. blasting every vehichle on the street into a pileup.
you probably just did the missions as if you had no option to run around having fun.
basically the fun in gta is simply the game being a stress reliever.
maybe you just need to take a week off from video games. when you come back it will be like it was when you picked up the controller for the first time.
You're not the only one, trust me. I like GTA2, and Vice city, but GTA3 (whoopie-freagging-do, almost the same as GTA2, but since it's 3D a whole bunch of people hail it as some sort of god of the sandbox games) and SA never did it for me. 'Specially SA, with it's screwed up morals, hatefull characters (no, not because they're black. More like the gang, druggie, backstabbing cowardice things) and god awfull graphics.
Filling a plain world with menial tasks doesn't mean there's much to do. Even for completionists. Dear god, i finished DW5 with all characters on Chaos, and still didn't have the patience to drudge through SA.

Screwed up morals? Personally, I think GTA:SA is the only game in the series that probably has any morals. San Andreas actually has a very strong anti-drug message, it's pretty much what the whole game is about. You get to see how drugs tear the Grove Street Families apart, and how they lead to addiction, betrayal, violence, and death. However, I'm not saying that San Andreas is a morally good game. Let's face it, you still play as a gang member, and you kill rival gang members and can still create all kinds of mayhem with the police and innocent bystanders and whatnot, but this game focuses on a pretty positive message. CJ wisely says "no" to drugs, and he benefits from this decision. Some of his close friends make the wrong decision and they face the consequences of their actions. Oh, and by the way, considering the size of the game and everything going on in it, San Andreas actually looked quite good. Definitely not the best graphics on the PS2, but it was pushing more than probably any other game on the console and still looked nice. The game even had realistic cloud formations programmed, man! It deserves some respect for it's scope and ability to deliver and improve so much over Vice City.
Yes, your the only one.. GTA R0X!!
Just kidding.. Im sure theres others out there :P but i love GTA myself.

Oh, how I have seen this thread so many times. "Am I the only one who doesn't like (insert popular game)?"
This thread follows the formula very well. First, the person says they don't like the game and uses generic insulsts that could apply to any game. Then, a few people pop up to agree, acting like they are some oppressed minority that is forced to hear about how great said game is.
Please, let these threads die, or at least have rational arguments in them. Some of you are actually saying you don't like it because you prefer your games a different way without coming out and saying it sucks, which is at least a step in the right direction.

CJ shows much more emotion and remorse than either Tommy Vercerti or the mute from GTAIII, and most of the people CJ kills are horrible people...I like VC better too, but that wasn't really the main part of what Guero was debating.
There is arguably more hate for GTA than there is for Halo, and trust me plenty of people think Halo is extremely overrated...However, I for one love GTA, and I actually think the hype is equal to the quality of the games.HiResDes
wait.... so to you the game is rated?
There has never been and never will be a game that everyone loves. H3LLRaiseR
Well, yeah. Tell that to the people in this thread. They think they are being rebellious by saying that a popular game "isn't all that great" or "one of the most overrated games." Actually, I don't know if anybody said those things, but knowing this thread, I assume somebody did.

Huh, I don't understand what you're asking, maybe this:
My Ratings
GTA III - 9.2
GTA VC - 9.6
GTA SA - 9.2

I think he meant that instead of overrated or underrated, it was just rated. Like you agreed with the critics who said the game was awesome.
Wow, I didn't realize anyone could dislike the games....They are just epicly awesome... When I first played GTA III I spent an entire weekend just randomly doing stuff with hardly any sleep (I miss high school). Then came Vice City and I was like HOLY CRAP!, and then San Andreas just blew me away.
It's easily one of the greatest games ever made.

I'm not sure what kind of morals and characters you expected from a Grand Theft Auto game especially since you are familiar with the series and, even more surprisingly, since you liked Vice City which doesn't differ at all in that department. In fact, San Andreas introduces a character with certain values and morals as opposed to Tommy Vercetti who is just a cold-blooded bastard with no values or morals whatsoever.
As for the graphics complaint, that argument is mentioned only by those who have a poor understanding of technology. San Andreas looks great, I repeat, GREAT considering how huge the world is, the number of NPC's and the level of interactivity - with absolutely no loading times whatsoever...oh yeah, it's also a frickin' PS2 game.
