Every time I go there it's like they will not let me leave the store without preordering a game. The other day I was asking if they were going to have a midnight release for NCAA, and the manager of the store didn't know yet, but the clerk who was helping me went ahead and preordered the game for me without my knowledge. I was buying a game that wasn't $60 so I didn't even notice the $5 increase in price until I got home and looked at the receipt.

wow thats a grimy move, i'm guessing that guy was on the chopping block or probabtion or something so he did that to get his preorder sales up. You should just online shop at amazon or even best buy. I only shop at gamestop for their used game sections but hate when their always trying to shovel their magazines, edge card and pre-orders in my face because honestly their are people who just can't say no, so they use that to their advantage.

I'm the same way, I only buy used games there. I only preorder a game if they do a midnight release, unless there's a great deal on Amazon (like there usually is).

Wow... Well, most of the guys at the Gamestops I like to go to are pretty friendly. Although I'd still rather go to random game shops, I still like going to a store where everything is video game related.

I have to agree, I hate shopping there. Like the other poster said - their magazine, club card, etc. pitch is so exhausting. I can barely pay for my purchase without just saying "F it" and walking out! Besides that, they are rip off artists when it comes to selling and buying used games and have bad customer service, IMO.

Whatever. I usually buy from Target, or online at Newegg (have you heard of it? Got my new release GOW III game for $8.00 cheaper than other stores).

My local Gamestop store isn't so bad, the staff are helpful and friendly and they don't try to get their hands into my wallet and get every coin and bill out of it. Then again they have to follow certain rules here in this country that are quite strict, regardless of what policies the Gamestop company might have.

I know how you feel. I can't walk in there without having their magazines and cards shoved in my face (even though I already own them  ). That and their employees are a bunch of biased COD fanboys and don't know s*** about what they're talking about.

That's a dirty move for that guy to pull. I don't go to Gamestop as often as I used to thanks to Amazon and f.y.e. The one around my house is fine though. They do ask me to preorder everytime I go, but that's to be expected.

In my years of going there, I've only had one problem, just off the top of my head, but it was easily fixed with no hassle. The way I see it, it's just like any retailer. You get some good, you get some bad.

I haven't gone to a gamestop for years now. They overprice they're used games like crazy, and bug you about pre-orders. I was layed off awhile ago, and during that time I couldn't afford to buy games like I had been. So what I did was buy games off ebay, play them, then sell them back on ebay. Turns out I spend no money at all on games now. Some games you can actually make money back on when you sell it. Play all the games you want for virtually no cost!

I'd get ripped off even worse on ebay, there was a guy with really good feedback, we bought a game I wanted from him, and the disc didn't even have data on it.

I just buy from Amazon anymore. Their trade in values are amazing compared to Gamestop, and no one pressures you to preorder anything.

I used to shop at a local gaming store here thats just like Gamestop, but the people who work there give me judgmental "get a life, freak" looks instead. Not surprising though, since most of them are close minded teens who believe all the articles about gaming being bad and such.

I stopped shopping there ever since another gaming store opened up at mall near me, at least the people who work there enjoy gaming.

Wow, that's a pretty crappy thing from him to do.

His name should be on the receipt. Go complain to the manager.

And wait, don't they need a phone number for pre-orders? Whose number did he use?

Any way, I love my local EBs

With the Gamestop that I go to, I don't have to worry about that. Everytime I go and pick up a game or two, they ask once and ONLY once if I want to pre-order any game coming out. If I decide to, I will, but if not, that's OK, because they don't force me to do anything at all. That's how you do right with your customers...when I used to work there, it got aggravating to see customers get nagged by my former co-workers on pre-ordering a game nonstop, even after the sale was completed. It was pretty bad.

I don't find the act of shopping their to be bad, but I do dislike the fact that they almost always sell my broken products. I've gone to 4 different stores over the past decade and every time they sell me something that's broken and has to be returned. The worst example would be when I purchased a used xbox in the early 00s and it red ringed as soon as I tried to turn it on. I returned it the same day and they sold me another one with the same issue. They're a terrible retailer for consumers. Probably the worst in the country. I can't think of any other store that sells broken products that have been labeled as working products on such a regular basis. And that's just one shady aspect of their business out of many shady aspects.

I never buy at Gamestop. It's croweded, always out of my way, and their trade-in values leave something to be desired. If I have a itch to play alot of new video games, I would just get Gamefly. Never have to get out. (Other than checking the mailbox, but that's done everyday anyway)

my local Gamestop sucks. They wont let me buy anything new. "We have that used!"..."no, that's okay" ...."just trying to save you money here, that's all" (fact: used version of new game is 54.99, as opposed to sealed version, 59.99. Used version may contain grime, grease, or other bodily fluids on said disc. Used game often has non working online pass. Price of online pass: 9.99. Total cost of used game 54.99+9.99. Money saved: 0.00) "See, just saved ya all kinds of money!"

I like Gamestop because the workers there are pretty cool. I have like 2 of the workers gamertags. They renew my membership and stuff like that for free. Once I broke my MW2 disc, and the worker gave me another used copy for free xD

I hate shopping there because one of 2 things happens, I buy a cheap used game just to play and pass the time and the kid at the counter ask's "are you sure you wanna buy that game? I'm telling you right now it sucks, are you sure you still want it" and that's when i reply, "yes I'm sure, i wouldnt be standing in line holding it if i wasnt sure, and just because it's not japanese or and RPG doesnt mean it sucks" OR you have some kid telling you lies about a game that he thinks he has some secret insider info on, like when i went to pre-order Modern Warfare 2 last year (i followed it and the developers on twitter and read every article i could find about it so i knew everything they made public) the kid working at gamstop starts telling people there will be vehicles in multiplayer, the maps would be bigger than world at war's, zombies would make a return, and all kinds of other lies, so i chimed in with "No, there wont be vehicles, zombies or bigger maps your full of **** which he came back with, "I work at gamestop, i should know" LOL yea....

being a reatil store they have to focus on numbers
just like anyother if you don't bring in the reservations, pro card sales, and the 'always kis butt' attitude
they will just fire that one guy and bring in another guy who could do a better job

some store are different than others
if you don't like one store, there are others who don't pressure you and are generally nicer to you
i was going to one store in the mall for years, then they changed a lot of their advisors, so i just left to another store and have been going to that
said store for years now, made friends with the past three managers

I just know not to listen to the people behind the counter since they don't know ****. Been misinformed so many times, I always know thetruth so I don't arguenod my head and continue withmy purchase. I purchase maybe 2 or3 games a year, so visiting GS/EB isn't really a big thing to me.

At my local GS they never bother me with such offers. In fact, the last couple times I got surprisingly good deals with my trade-ins. Though I gotta say, they're getting really greedy with the prices. The most popular games stay at 70 Euros for months after release.

I hated them up until about a month ago when they decided to honor a Duke Nukem Forever preorder that i placed at a SOFTWARE ETC almost 7 years ago.

I explained that i put $5 down there as a joke ( i remember what year it was because i picked up Doom 3 on the same trip ) all that time ago. The software etc turned into an EB and then into a gamestop. That gamestop moved and the location turned into an Orange Julius and later into a Dairy Queen. Not sure what it is now.

I wasn't even really trying to get my pre-order honored. I was not concerned about $5. I was just sharing my story and the dude was cool enough to credit me $5 on it.

This hardly absolves them for years and years of being terrible and yeah it's only $5 but it's a small step in the right direction for me at least.

I hate Gamestop as well, but half of the problems listed in this thread are due to some of you not speaking up at all and letting the employees push you around. Man/Woman up for god sakes.

i dont have a problem saying "no thanks," although ive never had anybody sneak preorder a game on me (and as somebody else said, you should just talk to the manager and say the cashier erroneously charged you). i actually end up getting it the other way around sometimes. ill tell them i didnt pre-order the game and get whatever stuff preorder-ers get.

I don't mind it...most times. A lot of the times I run into a really nice cashier who will make small talk about the game I'm purchasing, it's even better when they don't care about you getting a warranty on your game.

Recently when I went to purchase a game (Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon if you're curious) there was a female cashier who came off as unfriendly (which is fine I guess, I'm not there to make friends) but when I said "No thanks" to the warranty she became a bit too impolite and started to handle the game, obligatory flyer, my debit card etc. a bit too roughly for my liking.

Another small issue I have with them is when you purchase a game, sometimes they take the empty case you have and shove a CD and manual in them, this happened to me when I purchased Zack and Wiki for the Wii. I can sort of understand since it was the very last copy in the store (i.e. the case they used for display) but I don't like how I was charged for the game as "new". I think if the case was in better shape I wouldn't have minded as much, but the case they gave me had the plastic at the bottom all roughed up/ripping.

The equivalent of Gamestop in Australia is EB Games and they are woeful. Games are $110 brand new and only $100 used. Brand new games and cases look like they have been rolled around in dirt before put on the shelves and disks always have scratches on them. They always want to try to pin you for warranty which you probably need to take looking at the disc condition and it's just bad. Go down the road and a Target or K-Mart is selling the same games for $80 and second hand places selling games for $20. Personally, eBay FTW.

I rarely shop there. With Steam and AMazon, I don't feel the need to go to a brick and mortar for my games. If I feel the need to want it NOW, I sure as heck don't go to Gamestop.

Every time I go there it's like they will not let me leave the store without preordering a game. The other day I was asking if they were going to have a midnight release for NCAA, and the manager of the store didn't know yet, but the clerk who was helping me went ahead and preordered the game for me without my knowledge. I was buying a game that wasn't $60 so I didn't even notice the $5 increase in price until I got home and looked at the receipt.

hockeyruler12

I don't understand. He preordered and made you pay for a game, without you realizing what was going on? /confused

Anyway, I always get this generalized image of America in my mind when I hear you guys talking about Gamestop like that. Like everyone are so rude and don't give a crap. It feels like it's taken straight out from some comedy flick. Over here at least, it's not so bad, they're nice and human and last time I went there I had a nice short chat with some japanese dude about the excellent choice of game I just bought (Trauma Center for Wii).

But then again I visit Gamestop very rarely as the absolutely best game store chain is in town anyway so...

There are a lot of people, including myself, who hate Gamestop. I personally do not like going there because it seems like 75% of the employees are total fanboys that chastise you if you don't like Halo or Call of Duty. Also, they are often pushy when it comes to signing you up for magazines, cards, pre-orders, ect and it gets to the point where you feel uncomfortable going in there even to browse. Not only that, but there prices are typically high on everything they sell, new and used. And finally, I really dislike Gamespot in how they more or less destroyed all other national video game corporations out there and created somewhat of a monopoly as a games only store. I miss having Funcoland, Software Ect, and various other chain game stores around, but because of Gamestop and their predatory nature, we are given one mainstream store to shop at.

However, that's not to say that there aren't other independent game stores out there that are WAAYYYY better in every way. I for one shop consistently at 2 local indi-game stores that have a great selection and mostly great prices on their stuff. I also buy about half my games off of ebay; I've got some amazing deals on Ebay on some more pricey, rare titles. Back in January I picked up a like-new copy of Castlevania Symphony of the Night for only $17, I was pretty happy about that!

Anyhow, that's my rant, I just really despise Gamestop.
