Like I mean...i really like games that have no guns, no killing people, none of anything like that.....id rather play a game like that rather than a game such as Halo...

Games like that I just find are a ton better....like I just played the BioShock demo and my favorite part of the entire thing was the beginning when your in the water with the fire and your exploring the area looking for the elevator thing....I was thinking to myself if they made a game just like this Id like it a ton...I dont think the game is that good and Im not gonna get it...

Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit is one of my favorite games ever.....that didnt have any action at all...just exploring, a great immersive story, adventures etc. etc.

I like games that dont rely on guns and shooting people to make an entire game....I find that games like that just base the entire game on shooting things and leave out story and stuff....

Like it looks like Alan Wake is gonna be a really good game....that just looks like an adventure game with great graphics, great mystery and all of that stuff....

Anybody else like that?? I just find games without any action in them at all a lot more fun...its like playing a really good movie....

Its a shame that there are barely any games out there like that though....

I like games that require skill, strategy, speed, and precision. I hate exploring just for sake of exploring.

There are many games of this type, they just tend not to be huge commercial releases anymore as they often lack the "flash" of violent games.

One you might try is Within a Deep Forest

I agree with the original poster, despite the fact that I think Bioshock will raise the bar in the gaming industry.

Your right, guns dont kill story....but the story they have are usually dumb, unoriginal, and not that good.....most shooting games have the same exact under developed story....

While there are games such as Indigo Prophecy which had the most engaging, original, fun story I have ever played.....it didnt rely on guns and shooting people for gameplay, it involved thinking, plot twists, interaction with surrounding objects, the story changed due to how you played the game....it was just great...like controlling and playing a really really good movie

And then you have games such as Halo...where this is the story "Aliens are trying to destroy human race....go save humanity and shoot aliens" and then the gameplay is run around shooting things....and that is pretty much 75% of the games that come out...and I just dont find it fun...

I liked Indigo Prophecy, but I think MGS2 and Twisted Metal: Black had better stories. Twisted Metal has so many great stories. It shows that just because a game is violent, it doesn't mean it won't have a good story.

Yes, and I'm just saying you're off base blaming it on action. If Bungie gave half a damn, they could put a great story into Halo without compromising the action one bit. The reason they don't is because THE CASUAL MORONS THAT MAKE UP 90% OF HALO'S PLAYERBASE CAN'T BE BOTHERED WITH STORY. If you make them think, they'll feel stupid. If you make them feel stupid, they'll stop playing and stop buying.

It's not the action's fault, it's the mass market.

Indigo Prophecy didnt have any action? Really? Cause I'm 100% sure it did. Anyway back to your point, yes I do enjoy games with no action but I also enjoy games with action. Action or no action, as long as a game keeps me interested I'll play it.

I was referring to action in the game such as the fight scene. Yes you only match sequences of lights but there still is action in the game.

Yeah but all you do is watch it take place.....most of the gameplay isnt action...

The kind of action im talking about is games like Halo, Gears of War where the entire point of the game is to run around shooting things as they move.....

Those games have been coming out steadily for years now....im just starting to get really really bored with them and starting to like diffrent kind of games....and the games im starting to like arent popular and barely ever come out...

Like the game Survivor looked like it would be a really really good game.....but its canceled...

I just want something new...every game seems to be the same damn thing now....Im starting to play Virtual Console SNES games again, better than most of the games now....

You are not the only one.

I also very much enjoy games that doesn't have many action. which is why I love JRPGs and adventure games like The Longest Journey.

I generally like all types of games actually and I'd like to see more of no-action or limited action games to keep variety alive. Generally these type of games offer much better plot and storytelling.

Wow, that looks really neat. Reminds me of Afrika for the PS3. I wish they would come out with a game like either of these 2 for the 360.

While I do like action games, I like no-action games too, especially the Myst series which is basically only exploration, item interaction and puzzles. TC, if you haven't played them, do.

There are more games of that type than most people realize, but the larger gamer population seem to favor action games. The original Myst was the highest selling game ever until the Sims if I recall correctly.

Although action for me is any game which requires lots of reactions in real time, which would include Indigo Prophecy. Just because you don't shoot people doesn't mean it isn't action.

Halo had a great story, and it was presented in a completely innovative way.

The second one, that was pretty bad, but I wouldn't classify it as dumbed down at all, it actually went out of it's way to throw off people.

Did you happen to go to a Halo 2 release party? The vast majority of the people I'm talking about could never even find their way here.

I don't think people who show up at release parties represent the average fan. I am a fan of Final Fantasy (I've played all the mainline FF games that have hit these shores) but I've never felt a deep need to dress up like Tidus.

Halo 1 was a fine game and the best co-op game since Ikari Warriors. I appreciate the importance of story (Bioshock is great partly because of well integretated and told story elements) but I have much more appreciation for the work of game makers with little interest in storytelling than I do movie makers with little interest in game making.

My impression is that most frequenters of these game forums have less going on than the average Halo fan/average Joe. I don't think that taking videogames seriously is really a mark of intelligence.

Nope you arent the only one, Phoenix Wright, Guitar Hero, most adventure games are all solid and some of my favorites. Mind you I like both... I love action and non action games for the most part. But yeah to the topic creator I reccomend picking up a DS and a PC for some solid Adventure gaming fun. Theres a lot of other games I could name too but im too lazy to think of them right now.

Short answer.

I know exactly what you mean. I wish that there was a game where you explore the universe. Where you go out into space and travel to other worlds and moons or something in search of life. I thought that it would be a sweet game. Although i do like shooting games and action games, i think that there are too many of them with the same exact story line. Except multiplayer which is different everytime because you're playing against other people. But anyway, yes, i do think we need some good in depth adventure/exploring games.

playing an adventure game is more immersive than reading a book with choices. books and games are just different. in books you have to imagine it whereas in a game you'll experience the imagination of the game designer and developers. You have more control on the protagonist. a book turned into a game will ruin your version of imagination while a game turned into a book will give you hard time imagining your own version of imagination.

Don't you just hate it when people want better stories in their games, and then use Indigo Prophecy as an example of a great video game story? Sorry people, but thelast quarter of that game was right up there with Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Guns don't kill story.

The lowest common denominator kills story.

_MURS_

I loved and still play Indigo all the time, but it did have some action/suspense we definitely need more games like Indigo Prophecy.

P.S. I still like shooters as long as there is something interesting about them.

What are some good PC games.....Myst? Never heard of it until this thread....I have a DS but I dont really play it that much....

What are some PC games that I would like??

Myst is coming for the DS. But I would recommend getting it for the PC, preferrably the RealMyst version. The original version is basically a series of images of rendered environments with some basic animations that you click to move around while RealMyst is a 3D version.

The sequel, Riven, is more of the same with larger, nicer looking environments.

The third part, Exile has asort of compromise between 2D and 3D where you can look around freely instead of clicking to turn.

I have not played the two most recent versions yet.

I don't play the PC much at all but all of the classic point & click games would be a recommendation, games like Simon the Sorcerer, Escape from Monkey Island, Atlantis, Sam & Max, Loom, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis... I would google and wikipedia for more.

[QUOTE="DarkCatalyst"][QUOTE="ymi_basic"][QUOTE="DarkCatalyst"] THE CASUAL MORONS THAT MAKE UP 90% OF HALO'S PLAYERBASE CAN'T BE BOTHERED WITH STORY. CarnageHeart
I have two post-graduate degrees, but I guess you can include me amongst the casual morons because when I'm interested in a good story, I don't choose to turn on my game console.

I wasn't slighting Halo as a game (the only thing I ultimately care about - how good a game is as a game), I'm saying that Halo would have been pretty abrasive to most of the people who love it today had Bungie tried to shoehorn a deep story into it.
