I think I'm using the right word.  A sorta gritty, detective type game.  I know it doesn't have to have a detective in it.  I played Hotel Dusk, thats the only one I can think of.  So, any one know a good one?

L.A. Noire for the PS3 and rumored Xbox 360. Made by rockstar there is an awsome trailer and teaser. Not going to come out for a while though.

Even though I didn't particularly like it myself, you should probably check out Max Payne.

Hey man. i know you posted this a loooong time ago, but I just stumbled across it in looking for noir quotes online. Aside from Max Payne, which IS amazing, really really good, both of em, I can recomend 2 more, maybe even more up your alley. They arent first person shooters, or action games. They are adventure games. Like, puzzle solving. Grim Fandango, which is absolutely hilarious, and Discworld Noir, a gritty detective game, set in Discworld (the character was created for the game, but theres about 35 discworld novels written by Terry Pratchett. amazing books, every one.) both games have amazing stories, wonderful environments, great and memorable characters, gritty stories and dialogue, and are both frankly hilarious. The only problem with it is that both games are older, so you may have some problems getting em to run on vista or xp. SHOULD beable to get them to work for xp, might take a little bit of work though. just a heads up. hope that helps, if you're still even interested in finding more noir type games. :)

Story and theme doesn't really fit with Noir films, but if you like directing and visual effects of Noir films, Rule of Rose might perk your interest.

There's a PC/Xbox game that came out a couple of years ago called Still-Life. It's an adventure noir-style game that you should check out!

Discworld games definitely don't work on XP and Vista. :(

Ok, who is gravedigging for rotting threads? :x

Please refrain from bringing back threads months old. Thanks.
