No rpgs of any sort! I'm asking if there are any action, racing, fighting, etc. (NO RPGS!) I just got a PS2 today (I've actually had around 5 different ones since it came out "back in the day"). The games I got today are:

Batman Begins

Black

God of War 2

Mortal Kombat Armageddon

Shadow of Colossus

Test Drive Eve of Destruction (I'd kinda consider this a hidden treasure, great game, haven't heard much talk of it).

Twisted Metal Black

I've beat GoW 1 and RE4 several times so those are out. The next games I plan on getting are: Midnight Club Dub Edition Remix, Mortal Kombat Shao Lin Monks, and Tekken 5. I also plan on getting a Spyro the Dragon game for my wife. She loves those types of platforming games so any good games in that genre would be appreciated as well, she loved Yoshi games for SNES back in the day, so I think she could like Spyro. Most of the games I got today and are getting later I've already played, referring to all of the big name games. That's why I'm asking about "hidden treasures" or games that "flew under the radar". Some other games I never played: Area 51, Second Sight, Shao Lin Monks. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Such fun game choices you have.

I reccomend Jak and Daxter, and no, it's not an RPG.

I know Jak and Daxter isn't an rpg. I know most of the big name games and I know that the rpg games that I'm referring to are games like: FF, dothack, persona, chrono tross, etc. I know about Ratchet, and Jak and such. The games I'm referring to are games like Psychonauts, Okami, Total Overdose, Kill.switch, and other games that might be good but didn't get much recognition. I think I'm going to get Okami and Psychonauts next and am wondering about some others...but yeah, thanks.

What about games that are good and did get the attention they deserved and should be played because they're good?

Sorry, wasn't trying to be rude. I'm trying to narrow my question regarding great games that weren't big blockbusters cuz I've had around 5-6 different PS2's since they released way back when, I've played most all of the blockbuster games. I'm just trying to find out if I may have overlooked any games that were great but they weren't as commercially successful. I've played RE4, All Prince of Persia's, both Manhunts, a couple of the R & C games, 1 or 2 Jak games, both of the Suffering games, etc. I've played tons of PS2 games, but I know that there are still quite a bit out there that I never got the chance to play. Shadows of the Colossus for instance, I've had all these PS2's over the years and I'm just now trying this game out. I never played the RE outbreak games (dunno if they're any good). Never played Area 51, or Deus Ex, or Second Sight. Those are a few games from the action genre I never played, any others that aren't rpgs? I'm just trying to stay busy while I save up for a PS3, that is all....

Yeah, I need to go back and get Psi-Ops, that was a good game, I think I got pretty close to the end and got stuck. The last thing I remember was being in this graveyard with these dead soldiers coming back from the dead, I think that's right, it was hard. I'll probly find that somewhere on the cheaps. As well as Deus Ex. I'll look around for some info of Yakuza 1 & 2 as well. Never played Fatal Frame and I'm a huge horror movie/game person. Think I'll like that one?

You should give Rumble Racing a try. Incredibly fun arcade racer, tons of stunts, shortcuts, jumps, good power ups (no cheesy oil spills and rockets to be found.) It also has great replay value. There are 15 tracks to unlock and I think around 20 cars. Can't reccommend this one enough.

A lot of great suggestions. Not too sure that Madden 09 is a hidden treasure no matter how you look at it, though. All the games mentioned before are fine but I take it you're looking for some really obscure, fun stuff that not everyone has attatched themselves to.

If so, try Giants: Citizen Kabuto if you can find it. Should be very cheap (I got it for about $5, a few years back).

Also, I've got to agree on the Metal Slug 4/5. Do yourself a favor and try it. Goes for a fair price.

Some others: Katamari Damacy, Ico, and Indigo Prophecy

Oh yeah, I remember Rumble Racing! I bought that one as soon as it came out, back in the day. I remember how cool Nascar Rumble was for PS1 (Never have actually liked Nascar though) and when I heard about Rumble Racing back then, I had to have it. Yeah, that is definetly a classic racer. I got it again a year or so ago off of Amazon (when I had my previous PS2 among many others) for like $5. I sure have heard alot of talk about Ico, I played a demo of that one back in '01. May have been just the demo but it seemed kinda boring, I'll check out some info on it though, and Indigo Prophecy too. Thanks a bunch everyone, keep em coming.

If like beat em ups, there's Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. If you don't mind trying quirky rhythym games, there's Parappa the Rapper2 and Gitaroo Man.

figured i'd bring the answer to your thread. (from ps2 games I've missed and need to get)

I have not played Okami so can't tell you from personal experience but Psychonauts is a blast, both were games that did not quite catch on but but deserved to. the character is are odd looking creatures. Your protagonist is a kidwho runs away from the circus to become a "mental marine" at Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp. odd and fun.

If you remember Cary Elwes from Saw, The Princess Bride (Dread Pirate Roberts/Westley), Robin Hood: Men in Tights he does the acting and is great in this under appreciated game that I found in a bargain bin.....The Bard's Tale, while not really long it gives you the choice of either a snarky or nice answer each time and that decides what happens next.

Personally I lean towards survival-horror games and think Haunting Ground is good as an alternative to shoot em up or hack and slash. As in the Clock Tower series you have to evade and hide from danger to win this game which makes it both more of a challenge and more of a reward when you do finish. Also nice is the possibility of multiple endings.

Kuon based on the Japanese story of Kwaiden although not as challanging has more possibility for defence and more offensive capability. you play twin sisters in beset by darkness in an old mansion during medieval feudal times.
