My girlfriend and I play games all the time and we are playing through gears of war 3 at the moment. And I know several other girls that play games. Batman, GoW, CoD, etc. Not necessarily girly games. You probably aren't alone.ZzNashoOI also play Gears 3 with my fiance. We should run a few games together or something, but I don't have a mic right now!

Seriously what's with the attitude? I've seen a number of posts by Smokescreen where she refers to herself as a female gamer.I'm a guy, but I don't see why you're going about with that sarcastic attitude. You have much to learn. How so? Smokescreen has stated plenty of times it was a man. It's because in their limited notion of what defines a person, they do not accept me for who I am. They seem to think I'm male because I was born with a male body although I am female in regards of gender identity and who I am. They are the kind of people who think that a person is defined by what's between the legs instead of the actual person within. I identify as female, always have, I am not male. So therefore I am a female gamer. A person is not defined by what's between their legs. There are female gamers on this site and around the world, but the majority of them tend to keep quiet due to the issues I mentioned. Trying to get female gamers to speak up rarely ever works since many female gamers feel that if they speak up that they will be pestered by many of the immature male gamers who act like females should never be allowed to play video games.Smokescreened84
So you were technically born a man? No disrespect, just asking since you put it out there.

I was born with a male body, but my personality, manner, behaviour, how I identify myself as a person and as my gender is female. I am female, sex and gender are two separate things. Sex is reproduction, gender is based on personality and mental development from the womb up to adulthood. And I am not an 'it'. I am a human being, a female, regardless of how my physical sex is. What's between my legs does not define me as a person nor does it say what my gender is, it only says of the sex. And that will be rectified eventually. You have much to learn. How so? Smokescreen has stated plenty of times it was a man. It's pretty straight forward as she already explained in her previous posts. Also you don't refer to a person as 'it', that's highly ignorant.[QUOTE="Archangel3371"][QUOTE="chilly-chill"]

There, issue resolved.
Now let's get this thread back on track.

Indeed. Played a few of them myself. Pretty all right stuff.

It's not my place to be judgemental on how you choose to live your life. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters. Game on.

I was just wondering if there were any other female game players who are also on Gamespot. I assume there are I was just wondering how many. When I forst started gaming it was very unusual for there to be female gamers. It sort of seems like females are often hard to find on gaming even though I think there are more than there used to be. There are girly games out there, but I'm one of those people who usually doesn't like those games. I prefer other types of titles. arcangelgoldthey do exist, but as other posters have mentioned, we don't usually set up specific threads asking, only because it does seem to bring the trolls (not that asking as you have is wrong). which is sad, because it really shouldn't matter to the online community. the only people who should SERIOUSLY care what sex i am are my partner (or potential partners, which do not include online people i will likely never meet) and my doctor! otherwise it is just a topic of conversation which is usually taken way too far by others a lot of the time.

It sort of seems like females are often hard to find on gaming arcangelgoldYeah right. Every opportunity they get, they're making their femininity abundantly clear so they can get attention. Proof pics (a certain someone in off topic is a perfect example of this), putting a little webcam picture on their games livestream whilst being dolled up, having some indication they're a female gamer in the username, mentioning they're a girl gamer on their games livestream status and so on.
Most of them seem to make it as clear as possible. I rarely play a game and hear a female voice unexpectedly because I already have been told they're a female or I got the idea from their username.

so putting up my own pic makes means that i want attention? i put my pic up because it's who i am, and i am not ashamed. i use my mic in games without shame as well. if someone creates a big deal about it, i just tell them to stop whining like a 6 year old and go clean their room ;) do these things alone mean that the person is trying to get attention? no. if a guy does these same things, it does not mean they crave attention, nor is it automatically assumed that's their intention as you have in your post. their actions are what show it, and some females go for the attention and some don't, in the same way that some males are "in your face" with their bad language and "smack talk": because they want attention. what is really sad is when a female feels she has to hide the fact that she is a female because she will instantly either be trolled or judged as an attention you-know-what. not hiding it doesn't always mean she is looking for the kind of attention you are referencing.Well the percentage of females on GS is small, but it's there no doubt about that.
Heck there's Jody, Carolyn, and myself on staff. Soon we'll take over the whole office MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA
PS. You all know the drill.... Everyone play nice or I start posting Ponys...

So long as women are still not finding respect from the community, it's INSANELY important! New gamer girls, or gamer girls who are not "outted" yet need to know that they can feel like they belong since more often than not when they look around at gaming they see mainly guys.
There might be a woman tossed in here and there but most gaming communities are vastly dominated by males which can make for an intimidating experience.
Same could be said for a guy, lets say he wants to take a class and finds out low and behold that it is heavily dominated by women, he might feel somewhat lost and in need of another "bro" to help him feel secure in an environment that he might not be accustomed to.

i completely agree. it's good to know that you're not alone, and when you are a minority it can be good to try to find others similar to you to identify with, if it suits you of course. i'm an engineer and that is still a male dominated field, and even though i never felt THAT alone being a female (mostly because that's just who i am), it was still very nice to know there were programs out there to get female engineers together. it's not everybody's cup of tea, of course, so it should never be forced upon someone, but it really does help even to just know there are others out there.
and it's not a whole "all women must band together!!!" kind of deal, either. there are plenty of females, gamer or non, that i dislike--just like there are plenty of males i dislike. still nice to know we're not alone.
the main reason i post in these threads is not to respond to the guys who are griefing the girls, it's to show the other girls who are likely reading these kinds of threads and posts that they aren't alone, even if they don't speak up and do not wish to join in the conversation. i'm not speaking for all females when i respond, but again maybe something i say, something i stand up for will affect another gamer in a positive way.
