I'm honestly getting sick and tired of all the shooters now. Too many of the games out now are just shooters. Now, a lot of other genres of games are barely even out there. I mean, what happen to all the classic platformers and RPG's? Shooters are starting to be some of the only big games coming out.

There are always other games out there. Look a bit harder if you don't want shooters.

No I'm not getting sick of them but there are still plenty of other great games that are coming out beside shooters. Games like Forza 3, Dragon Age, Tekken 6, Brutal Legend, etc. Even Borderlands isn't a typical straight up shooter. Then you have upcoming games like Final Fantasy XIII, Super Street Fighter IV, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, etc. There's actually a lot of great variety out there.

While it is true that shooters are terribly linear in nature, I'm a little surprised - since you mentioned RPGs - that you apparently passed up Dragon Age.

And in just a little more than a month from now, Mass Effect 2 will be on the shelves.

I wouldn't say I'm sick of them. I am playing other games as well now. I used to only play FPS but now I've been playing a lot of Assassin's Creed 2 and Rock Band 2 (which is far from a shooter as you can get). I still love FPS games though.

I've been sick of shooters since Goldeneye, but I do agree that avoiding the genre altogeher has been tougher the last two years.

As for the suggestion lists, just find your own games to enjoy.

I personally am not a big fan of shooters myself, but there are other genres on the market, its just that shooters are the new "cool" genre

its always been like that, in the 80s everything was a Mario clone, in the early ninties everything was a Street Fighter clone, the PS1 was full of RPGs. shooters are pretty much the same for this gen

Yes because I'm not really into shooters. I prefer melee games than shooters. I want some style when killing enemies. :)

I only played/will play 3 shooters this year. Played GTA4 and Ghostbusters, will play The Saboteur. By the way, I got to play GTA4 and Ghostbusters for free. Borrowed from my bestfriend. Hehe. So the only shooter I will purchase this year is The Saboteur.

The only shooters or games with guns I enjoyed are GTA series (and games similar to this), MGS series, RE series, and Hitman series.

I HATE FPS!

I'm tired of shooters. There's so many of them because they're easier to make compared to games of other genres.

yeah I'm getting bit tired of 'em. a quick look at my 360 library explains it all (waaaaay too many shooters in there. even the RPG's are shooters :?) luckily I'm getting a couple of non-shooting games for christmas, so that should cure me.

although, after playing a lot of spec ops in MW2, I have been CRAVING a stealth-action title like MGS4 or Splinter Cell Conviction.

I wouldn't say that I'm sick of shooters as I don't tend to buy them as I don't really enjoy them and I suck at them. But, it is true that it is one of the most popular, oversaturated genres at the moment. Come to think of it, there is an argument to say that range of genres available for consoles (not so much pc games) has been slowly shrinking over the years. I guess developers want to make games that sell given the huge costs involve these days. I will never, however, be a fan of FPS games.

It's a great game, but that's when I realized that shooters will get too complicated and hyped for thier own good as time goes by, so I stopped caring about them. And the way I see it my views came true.

I love shooters. If you got tired of this kind of games, there are plenty other genres you can play. Especially, as for RPG's, I recommend my favourite NWN2.

I don't mean it like "I can't handle this", I mean like FPS games should be simple (Doom) with a bit of variying objectives (Goldeneye), but no they had to add scanners, spy cameras, alien zappers, upgradable weapon systems (RPG style), RTS elements, a million types of game modes for multiplayer... etc. No thanks, I'll get an RPG if I want that kinda experience. FPS games are mainly about shooting and avoiding being shot, simplicity. That's my 2 cents.

Shooters? Not so much....perhaps a little bit. Open world games? Very much so, with open world shooters being the worst of the bunch.

I'm sick of how everything is crossing over into shooterdom now, how Mass Effect is essentially a shooter

How MGS4's controls have been changed to make it a lot more like a shooter

but on the plus side Assassin's Creed 2 isnt a shooter, Little Big Planet is one of the best platformers this decade, we also have Mario Galaxy 2 coming up,

We have plenty of good RPGs, I suggest Oblivion (play it more until your head explodes)or Dragon Age to tide you over until Final Fantasy XIII comes out

buuuuut, we have run out of classic games

nothing will beat old school mario/sonic, or old final fantasy games old zelda games, ahhh Nintendo, I miss you :'(

Nope. I love shooting and killing.

Don't get me wrong. I'm playing Dead Space right now, and a lot of times, I won't shoot the necros, I stomp on them, remove all their limbs, pick up their Head with kinesis, and throw the Head against a wall. Makes a nice break from shoot to kill.

Often, I do take the time to clean up the mess. I throw the headless, armless, legless body over the railing, so that if my grandkids walk into the room, they will know that I clean up after playing with my toys.

So, games like Splinter Cell or Rainbow Six are too involved for what shooters should be? Metal Gear Solid isn't a good shooter. Games that allow attaching different attachments to guns, like silencers, grenade launchers and so on are too in-depth? Still, that surprises me. Doom style shooters are good now and then, but most people want more involvement than just going to a shooting gallery.

Metal Gear Solid isn't a shooter, it's a stealth game that just so happens to have guns, same with Splinter Cell. Shooters are something that primarily focuses at shooting to kill where as Metal Gear and Splinter Cell focus on primarily getting from A to B without getting caught.

I guess if we're discussing FPS, the example of TPS doesn't really prove anything. I guess I believe that all genres of games should be open to evolution and not just remain static in their instantiations. Modifying weapons, utilizing different tools, those kinds of things can be great fun.

No I certainly agree but I believe that if we are to stick with genre there are certain codes and conventions that must be stuck to, calling Metal Gear a shooter is the same thing as saying that in Halo the object of the game is to not be seen in order to get to the end of the level instead of blasting through everything like a mad man

i love shooting games but i only get like the real big ones that come out this year (Killzone 2, Modern Warfare 2). Otherwise my fave games are 3rd person action games like inFAMOUS, Batman, Uncharted 2 and Assassin's Creed II.

Been sick of generic shooters for years now. But much like platformers in the late 80's and early 90's, they're all the rage.

i'm quite tierd of violent videogames altogether. I prefer to play games that violence is not the main theme. Like the sims 2, or animal crossing
