So, after a few binges in MVC2, MK, etc, etc, I've gotten to like the analog stick with fighting games. To me, makes it easier to pull off combos, and feels more like the arcade sticks. Anyone else feel this way?

I've tried but I'm simply faster with the D-pad. Nothing beats a good arcade stick, though.

It doesnt matter how good you get with the stick it will never be as reliable or as precise as the d pad simply because of the mechanics involved with combo moves.

An example would be a combo move like Down Down, Back, Forward, Forward.

Now lets assume that the fighter you are playing registers a backward roll when you press Down and back at the same time.

The sheer inconvenience of doing the above combo move without pressing the stick into the Down/Back position on its way from Down to back would warrant it inferior to a D pad in every way.

Not to mention the increased finger travel time involved with taking an analog stick from neutral to forward and then back to neutral and back to forward instead of just pressing the d pad twice in rapid succession. Sure its only fractions of a second but if you are playing competitive it matters.

Thats just one instance i could think of off the top of my head.

I can't stand the analogue stick, especially in fighting games. I need the dpad.

I use d-pad, except when I played Sould Calibur 2 on the Gamecube. That d-pad was worthless.

Not usually. I prefer the directional pad because I seem to make fewer mistakes. Unfortunately my thumb tends to get very sore from playing that way. For this reason I like Smash Bros the most (the combos are simple and easy to execute all the time). I just think the way fighting games are made is so old fashioned. The only reason to add weird joystick motions to a combo is because you don't have enough buttons to store all the moves in the game.

I usually use the Analog stick in games like SC games and doing MK's fatalities like in MKD and if the game has decent movement, I use the Analog stick for that. Otherwise, I stick with the D-Pad for everything else. The only fighter I remember using the D-Pad for almost exclusively was SSBB. When SF4 comes out, I have no doubt, I will probably just use the D-Pad.

Must use D-pad unless it sucks. 360, Gamecube D-Pads are trash.
