Anyone agree that Saints Row The Third deserved a nomination for GOTY 2011?

All modern games these days focus mainly on story and graphics and while other games turn out very fun, Saints Row The Third was a breath of fresh air with the pure fun that game delivered. I personally think it should have been nominated for Game of the Year, anyone else agree?

I would have given it my game of the year if but Uncharted 3 was flawless (apparently Arkham City is as well but i've never played it).

Batman: Arkham City is damn near flawless. It's one of the best games in 2011. You need to buy the game, ASAP.

And yes, I feel that SR 3 should have earned that kind of recognition. But yeah...buy Arkham City and play it. You won't regret it. Now.

Haha, next major purchase shall be Arkham City since I have heard how broken Skyrim is, but this is not a Batman thread lol. Anyway, good to know someone else agrees with me on Saints Row The Third

Right now, until I play Skyrim further, I can't comment on that. But what I will tell you is that Arkham City is a beautiful game with PLENTY to do. It will keep you busy for months. There's always something that needs to be worked on in that game and it's always satisfying to come out winning in the end, especially the tough fights on Hard Mode in NG+!

Meh.

Up against Skyrim, Batman, Dark Souls, Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3, Portal 2 all those other awesome games that didn't get a nomination etc. I'd say its a good game, but the competition is too awesome.

Saints Row 3 was a disappointment. Saints Row 2 was a much better game. It focused too much on being "crazy" than actually providing worthwhile fun content. Story missions were good though. Too bad the side content sucked balls.

I love Saints Row 3. But it did have a few issues. For one, by the time you're done with the game, you'll be overpowering. So when you have to complete sections, like the Survival challenges, it sucks having to sit there, wait until they show up, and then kill them easily without a scratch. But I disagree about being too much on crazy - all the SR games did that and brought its worthwhile fun to it. I also liked earning all the challenges, getting the endings, etc. And I'm not even done with the game yet, because of the added DLC; I still have to hunt down the rest of the added achievements and finish them.

SR3 was my favorite game which came out last year (And I either have, or have playied through most of the nominees, if it was on PC, or PS3, then chances are I have them).

But despite being the most welcome wildcard last year, It did not deserve a mention in the GOTYs.

To me SR3 is like the 80's summer blockbuster action movies, it is about as fun as a game can be, but there is not alot of tecnical or artistic value in it, its just pure fun. And nominate a game because of it being fun alone, just ain't right.

A GOTY in my mind needs good visuals, Good audio, Good story, good gameplay, good value, and a good lasting impression.

They rarely make games like this anymore, a game where gameplay, fun is in the high seat, a game that knows full well that it is a game.

Saints Row The Third had all of that GOTY material exepct good visuals (who cares about visuals, you wan't good visuals, go to the art gallery).

Nice to see someone else agree's, they don't make games like Saints Row The Third anymore, a game could have perfect graphics, a perfect story and terrible gameplay and get a 10/10.

I know, the character customization gives the game so much replay value for me, as for the story, it is actually one of my favorite game stories because it is so funny and so man unexpected moments like zombies and Burt Reynolds as you said and also STAG and the Brutes, it has so many hilarious twists and turns.

The only value SR3 has is tiding me over for GTA.

By itself it's neither funny nor serious and generally not worth playing.

So? It was a very good game and worthy of that score imo. I also said in my review of GTA IV that it was very disappointing and nowhere near as good as San Andreas. But on its own merits it was still a great game and easily one of my favourite games of this generation. And at least with GTA IV Rockstar tried new and different things for the series and generally went in a different direction so it was at least understandable why it was lacking in some areas compared to San Andreas. It had so much attention to detail and very, very high production values as well as some massive physics improvements and improved shooting mechanics. It felt very different to any other GTA game.

What does Saints Row 3 do massively differently to warrant such a step backwards for the series? It changed very little. That's not necessarily a bad thing if the overall package is still improved. It wasn't. The story missions were of a much higher quality, but that's completely cancelled out by the fact the majority of the side content is just rehashed from Saints 2, the few new side activities sucked, and the game got really boring very quickly. A hell of a lot quicker than GTA IV did. A massive step back from the fantastic Saints Row 2, which I also gave a 9.5 for your information. There's no logical reason for this step back either. If they tried a completely new direction or did anything bold it might be understandable, but they didn't. GTA IV may have got boring a lot quiker than San Andreas and was nowhere near as fun, but at least it's understandable why that's the case since they went in a completely new direction for the series.

Saints Row the third was good, but they took out a lot of what made Saints Row fun and it was rediculously short compared to Saints Row 2. Also, the DLC for Saints Row the third is like the deffinition of bad DLC.

SR3 should have gotten a nomination, we have had so many games that are all about realism and doing too much of the same thing for too long, it was so refreshing to play a game that was designed to be over the top, tongue in cheek and pure fun. It made a change from the overabundance of realism games that many developers are obsessed with churning out.

Yes, what I really hate is that Modern Warfare 3 got a nomination and that was been 'there, done that' and Saints Row The Third was probably one of the most innovative games to come out in 2011.

It wasn't shorter, it was just that you didn't have to earn respect to do each mission.

Nice to see you agree, what was your #1 favorite game of 2011? And for those calling Saints Row 2 and 3 GTA rip offs, its like comparing Gran Turismo and Burnout.

In my opinion SR 3 doesnt have so much quality to give it any nomination to GOTY. Previews of SR3 gave me some hope that I will have a chance to play amazing game soon. I just love the elements of crazy missions, good sense of humour and dynamic gameplay. First impression: This game is created exactly for me.

Second impression: I owned the full game, bought some weed & beer mix and after 2 hours of playing I just realised that the game isn't extraordinary. It reminds me other game which is Just Cause 2. What I hate in both games is combat. In almost all missions we have to fight with mediocre gunplay. Its a part of the gameplay that ruins all sympathy to this game. I played it 10 hours and uninstalled because couldnt stand it anymore. I really wanted to like this game alot... love music and unique missions but everything else for me looks like a fail....

Still Im the one who have specific gaming taste. Lot of games that I hate are very popular. I cannot understand the hype around Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Mass Effect series :P

Yes Grand Theft Auto IV was great as it's own game but a terrible GTA, anyway this argument came from you saying the side content sucked balls in Saints Row The Third, the side content in Grand Theft Auto IV (besides that assassinations and races) was extremely stupid, I don't know what rockstar was thinking with the whole bowling, darts, pool, dating, interent and TV stuff.

I liked it, but I refuse to name it as my GOTY because it felt less like a game and more like a vehicle for the awful DLC.

I loved Saints Row: The Third. It was genuinely entertaining, and at times, hilarious. It reminded me of the reason why I play videogames -- fun -- and how so many developers have forgotten that (regardless of how awesome today's games are).

100% true, a game these days could have great graphics, great story and terrible gameplay and get 10/10, just look at Metal Gear Solid 4, it barley has any gameplay at all!

Saints Row The Third definitely deserved a nomination. I love that game. So ridiculous and fun. Has pretty much everything I want in a game. Hover jets and hover bikes, nut punching and neck snapping, lots of guns and rockets, destruction, intense impossible fights and stunts, tron tank, survival deathmatch tv show and so much more. I mean really, what is there not to love about this game?

I know, what sucks is that over the top fun and gameplay in general is underrated, all people want to see is graphic and story, just look at Metal Gear Solid 4, it barley passes as a game and it gets 10/10s everywhere.
