I have been before I could read (pokemon red helped me become literate) and between that time and now I have picked up most of the classic nintendo games and most new nintendo games and franchises. I also have a ps2 and psp but they are slowly retiring.

I must say that I am now beginning to lose a little interest in playing video games. I'm 14 years old and have tons of free time to play them but I just don't really feel motivated to play games. Games have always been a big part of my upbringing and I feel bad that I am starting to lose interest.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Well, judging by the games that you play, you are just playing alone single player games. That got old along time ago. It's all about the online multiplayer games. Shooters and sports for me. And now with the new Team Up and Team Play features a whole new door is opened.

But you are 14 so you should be turning your attention to girls, because trust me, you can't have both... LOL Unless you get licky and find one that plays or will at least let you play from time to time. But largely, girls and video games is a zero sum competition. At least that's how they see it... LOL

oh? boys too, then? :P

um, well ... don't sweat it. you could try the kind of games on PC, as they're quite different from console games. if all else fails, wait a bit - then your appetite might come back.

I have in the past...when I was around the same age as you actually :P

If you're really getting tired of it just put your attention towards other things and come back to gaming when you feel like it.

Sounds exactly like me. Although I was brought up in the nes days and was obsessed about Zelda and had a keen eye on only Nintendo games which I was only familiar with. That's when I lost interest completely. So I got a ps2 for a change, and it has opened my gaming experience rapidly and it keeps me motivated to play more games. I got so caught up in Nintendo games that I thought I wouldn't like any other games on other platforms. You just need to change your ways and go for something completely new and different.

Not necessarily sick of it; I've just been doing other things with my time. Lurking on OT has kept me from touching an actual video game in awhile. :D

I, too, am losing interest in video games. I'm young just like you(15). I personally think the xbox360 was the biggest waste of money ever. I just couldn't get into it that much. I still play it every once in a while, for games like NHL 09 and NBA 2k9, a little bit of COD4. Every other game just bores me. Recently i've had interest in friends, girls, sports(bowling, basketball, football), and working out, and i havent even touched my xbox in a few weeks. Trust me, you will have a lot of fun doing other things, more fun than sitting home playing videogames. It's fun getting out there and hanging out with friends almost every day, and especially working out, your self esteem rises so quickly. Games are fun every now and then. PC gaming is different than console though, a lot more fun, CS is amazing, along with old games like Caesar III, starcraft, etc. Try some of those types of games, extremely fun. WC1-3, Sid Meier's Gettysburg, zeus, pharoah, fear, etc

My best advice is try something new, buy another system, try a new game or genre you never think of playing and you might discover something you never thought you would've gotten into. I used to be kind of like you years ago when I was a huge Nintendo fan, buying pokemon games and Nintendo games, but one day I decided to get Medal of Honor: Rising Sun for the Gamecube, which was my first FPS. From there, I started getting into FPS and I also tried NFS:Most Want which I like pretty much. As I grew I got more into FPS, and got an original Xbox. As you can tell right now by looking at my sig, I have a 360 and still enjoy Nintendo games. All I have to say is expand your library of games you play.

Yes; nobody can go through life with only one thing/hobby to occupy the mind. Go do something else, read a book, watch movies, etc. When/if you feel like coming back to gaming, only then shall you return.

Whats happening is your gaming spirit is dying don't worry there are ways of restoring it, but you have to buy a very good game...buying a new console and some good games might help but really just playing a couple of incredible games should restore it. As for girls you can do both, you games and girls get yourself a DSI and watch you will become the stud of the classroom. Lol. Have you got a DS? because if your gaming spirit really is dying then handhelds are a good way to keep the gaming spirit alive and live your life at the same time.

well find a hobby maybe? Also go back and play some old school games 1999-2000 and before that you have never played before because normally they where more focused on storyline which for me personally always got me going back and playing them over again. Also maybe buying a new game every now and then?

I don't think I could ever get sick of gaming, its the escapism that I need to have. And have enjoyed it for 27 years.

That being said, you're 14. There's no issue in losing a little interest and finding other hobbies (as you seem to have done). But as someone suggested, get a hand-held. I agree that it is the stepping stone to getting back into gaming (if that is your desire).

So many great games for the next gen coming out and online does make it more of a social hobby.
