when your about to face the final boss but you're forced to go through an endurance of re-fighting all the bosses in the game again?

The game Im playing now, Dewy's Adventure on Wii, is like that (I still did it even though I didnt want too :P ). I also remember the original Kirby on GB was like that too. There are others I just cant remember right now.

IMO its pointless and kinda cheap. Youve already beaten them once so the game knows you can do it. Its so annoying. Its like, Ive made it this far now let me fight the FINAL boss already!

What I hate about boss fights is that for some reason final bosses in games tend to be way easier to kill than any other boss.

I agree, it's sort of like saying "remember those bosses? Yeah, you have to fight them again. Why? Because we ran out of ideas!" Megaman does this, though the bosses themselves are fun enough to make me forgive it. But bosses aren't as good these days as they used to be. Demon's Souls really showed how good bosses can be.

Yeah, Every Megaman game does it. It really sucked in Megaman 1 and 2 since if you ever get a game over (either from the old bosses or Wily) you have to restart all old bosses all over again! Wily isn't easy in Megaman 1 and 2, so it gets very annoying if you get alot of game overs.

And don't even get me started with Star Ocean 4...

Yeah, the end game in SO4 is pretty crazy. Luckily, the boss re-fights aren't hard, but it would suck if you get killed by the final boss, which is challenging.

You know what's worse than SO4's end game, though? The Wandering Dungeon.

I'm trying to think of some games that would make you do that, but I don't recall any off the top of my head, though I know there are some out there.

What I don't like is when the game lets you max out your character JUST before the boss fight--life/weapon crates, etc--as if it didn't matter how well you completed the level.

I thought the boss with all those light bugs that protect it was pretty hard. Though actually, you could skip through all the boss refights if you walk through the maze thingie correctly.

I take it the wandering dungeon is an optional place? SO4 is the only SO game I haven't done optional stuff in yet.

Yeah, the Wandering Dungeon is one of the bonus dungeons. It's not worth the effort.

I don't mind re-fighting bosses, but I guess it depends on the game. It's cool in Mega Man games, and they've been doing it since day one.

For my own game, I've been toying with the idea of making a secret area consisting entirely of boss re-fights, but the bosses would have new attacks and patterns.

That would be good.

This isn't the same, but in Ninja Gaiden Black's higher difficulties bosses have normal opponents as backup that keep respawning.

Yea, it's usually very annoying, so UNLESS it adds to story depth ( REAL story depth. ) you shouldn't do it, and at least don't COMPLETELY recycle the bosses, add new moves and patterns and looks! and try to make the final boss a bit harder than the others, AND ADD CHECKPOINTS IF THERE ARE A LOT OF BOSSES!! ( that's how I think boss re-fights should be done, if at all )

In Devil May Cry 4 you gotta battle them all 3 times. The second time it was with a new character, and since that character was Dante, I didn't mind it in the least. But then in the final mission, they throw them all at you again! That final mission is one of my least favorite mission in game history... Not just with the bosses, but it took random luck just to make it past each section. You had to roll the dice, and hope you get the right number. Sometimes it takes a long time... and then your reward after each platform, a boss you already fought before.

yea capcom games are usually very guilty of this, megaman, DMC4, and Okami just to name a few are all guilty of this. But anyway i agree and i always hate re-fighting bosses, it sort of makes the first boss battle lose its impact and it just feels lazy most of the time.

I hate it too, it's plain lazy game design. There was this mandatory tower in the amazing Secret of Mana where you had to fight all the game bosses in their powered up forms. ugh

I don't really mind fighting previous bosses. I just hate when the final boss is a total pushover.

I hate classic style boss fights in new games. It just takes the immersion away when you fight someone or something that keeps falling for the same exact thing.

Oh and I REALLY hate those giant bosses that just try to hit you with their giant hand and then you just have to dodge that and hit their hand a bunch. So lame..they should really stop trying to hit you with their hand..

You can actually control on what number the dice lands, but yeah I hate that mission. It`s the same with DMC3
