I still get picky once in awhile when I go to a pawn shop and I see a mix of the games that are of the original regular release with the black spiral and then the Greatest hits versions.

It also depends on the games too. I still have the Greatest Hits Final Fantasy IX while I still have the older regular black spiral releases of Parasite Eve and Tomb Raider III.

Anyone else kinda picky about whether having a Greatest Hits versin or the regular release of a game?

It depends on the game; if I run across a greatest hits copy of a valuable game at a great price I will pick it up regardless of the ugly greatest hits packaging. However if it's an ultra common game that pretty cheap no matter where you buy it, I will pass on it until I find a non-greatest hits copy. I've been holding off on buying another NFS hot pursuit 2 copy for the PS2 because I ever find is the greatest hits release. As soon as I find a non-greatest hits for under $5 I'm getting it though.

Generally not. At this stage of the game, some games you take what you can find until something better comes along. Games with Greatest Hits labels are pretty common, though. So at times since i know it sold that well, I won't bother to pick something up if it doesn't have the original case art. Recently I was looking to replace my PS2 RE$ I had given to a friend who had just gotten their PS2 out of the mothballs, and because I couldn't find one without the original art, I haven't bothered to buy what I've found. I know I'll find one in good shape someday, because it sold through the roof.

But I don't really care if that game was an original pressing. The only game I think that really matters with as far as console gaming outside of true Rare Birds, is a Hot-Coffee version of "San Andreas"... Which I have.

depends on the price, if they are the same price, or a very similar price, I will go for the normal version.

if there is a substantial difference, then its whatever version is cheaper, at the end of the day, Im playing the game not the box, and while they can look nice on a shelf, most of my games are kept in drawers or in a rather large box , out of sight.

I try to get the black label if I can since the greatest hits label is ugly but I don't mind if I have to settle for greatest hits.

I really couldn't care, My spyro trilogy is all green label, but i'll buy black label games over greatest hits label is the price isn't too much higher. I'm a picky collector, but not very picky.

I actually don't really like having Greatest Hits/Platinium versions of anything, I rather have the "normal" version.

same here, the only platinum games I own are FF 7-9 and DOA 2 for the PS2 other then that, not a single platinum or greatest hits game for the PS1, PS2, PS3 or the xbox 360

If they're around the same price I definitely get the black label. If I have to pay more, I'll deal with the greatest hits packaging. I care mostly about playing the games, not how they look on the shelf(or in the case of many of my games now, in a box).

at least the PAL platinum boxes are sort of appealing with the silver boxes, the bright green boxes the US gets are pretty ugly.

yeah I never got that, why does sony makes it's greatest hits series fugly to look at?

you'd think they'd have learned that lesson by now, but then you look at the PS3 platinum games with the hideous yellow stripes

I thought the purpose was to SELL more games?

maybe its to get us to buy the games at full price when they come out :P , seems to work too for some people. the other reason I guess is just so they need to make the older games more noticable on the shelf at the shop , and putting a large yellow bar on them certainly does that.

Are you talking about a PS1 silver boxes or PS2 silver boxes? Because I hate the silver PS2 platinium boxes, I only have 4 games with those cases and I tend to try to never purchase them.

I agree, I see those around alot, they're even worse than the PS2 ones.

I read something somewhere to the effect that occassionally Platinum re-releases on the PS2 have bugfixes to any issues that might have been missed in a best-selling game.

I don't go out of my way to have black-label games though over Platinum, i'm not fussed just as long as it's in good condition. If i find a game i want in a shop at a good price and it's got a silver heading, i'm not going to come over all fussy and decide i don't want it.

I only hate the greatest hits version of PS3 games. Greatest hit versions of Playstation and Playstation 2 games don't bother me. I don't like the Red cases that they come in.

Yeah I get really picky when it comes to old Playstation games finding them at pawn shops whether its the original black spiral or the Greatest Hits version.

I'd rather have a black spiraled Tekken 3 game than a greatest hits version which I dont think there was a greatest hits version for Tekken 3?

Most of my Playstation games are the regular black spiraled sided releases like Covert Ops Nuclear Dawn and Parasite Eve and Silent Hill. Final Fantasy IX is the only game that I have in my collection that has the Greatest Hits labeling.

Me I just think having the original black spiraled labeling on the sides is better while some games that have the greatest hits kind a stand out like a sore thumb.

While the Playstation 2 game that have the red colored Greatest Hits they dont bether me that much since there tons of copies of those Playstation 2 games

They should have just made the greatest hit markings removable, like a paper insert that folds over the case.

It's not just the greatest hits labeling on the case that makes them less desirable. They also usually tend to have less color printing on the discs on the greatest hits versions. Usually they're devoid of color and images and are just silver backed with black lettering.

If the game is really expensive I'll buy the GH version if it's cheaper. I just hate when I try to buy a game on Amazon and the sellers don't mention whether it's black label or not.

Depends on the game. Not too picky but it is a factor.

However with something like Resident Evil, I collect RE games, so I picked up a copy of Players choice and the original RE Zero, for example.

With regard sto this thread for playstation games though, I dislike the platinum hits for PS2 and PS3, doesn't look presentable, but I'll get over it

if i pass by something, i'm more interested in what game it is than what edition. as thecrypticodor stated, every gh release i've seen is silverbacked and looks no where near as cool as the black label. in my personal experience, gh games are a lot less durable because of the silver label. also theres a few isolated cases where things were changed, but usually it was just bugs/glitches. the resident evil greatest hits doesn't have the same soundtrack.

Nope as long as it's the actual game case and not a generic one.

I'd prefer black label, especially with games that I own that aren't easy to find like Silent Hill. It usually doesn't matter enough for me to not buy a game, but I do prefer black label.

I'm not picky about it at all. It's the game that matters to me the most, not the case that it comes in. Although it would be kind of nice to have black label copies of all my PS1 games.

If I see both versions of the game available to me and they're similarly priced, then I prefer the black-label version. But if the greatest hits version is cheaper, or the only one available, it doesn't bother me much. It's just a box, after all. It's the game that really matters.
